ATL 94.9 LITE IS SOON TO BE A LOT OF BULL

12/16: 94.9’s Bullish future with the Braves

By Rodney Ho | Saturday, December 16, 2006, 09:18 AM

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

In possibly the worst-kept format change secret in recent Atlanta history, soft rock Lite 94.9’s switch to country station 94.9/The Bull is looking more and more like a reality.

The biggest evidence is the www.bullatlanta.com Web site, which looks like it’s ready to go and is the same template used on other Bull country stations owned by Clear Channel in other cities. And it appears the Braves will leave what used to be 96rock and air on the Bull instead in 2007. It even has a banner on the site saying “Now the Braves Play Here.”

There’s also a note saying “Ride the Bull: Tell us what you think: Call the Bull Horn Comment Line at 404-879-5650.” The number’s not set up yet. But you can sign up to be part of the “Bull Force” email list here.

As noted earlier, the demise of Lite also means the departure of veteran jock Steve Goss and morning hosts Randy and Spiff. If you want to wish the pair farewell, they’ll be finishing up the Make-a-Wish telethon drive at Atlantic Station today from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the market square area. I may stop by to take a photo or two.

I don’t know when Clear Channel will officially unveil the new station. Will they “stunt” for a few days after Christmas and launch after the first of the year or start immediately after Christmas is over?

And there are rumors on www.radio-info.com, we might be gettin’ Moby back. Currently, he’s syndicating his own show and is heard on stations on the outskirts of metro Atlanta. This would be quite a return for Moby after his unsuccessful run on Z93 and getting ousted a few years ago off Kicks. Moby declined to comment about his own status there but said he’d love to see Kicks and Eagle get stomped.

******
I'm running out of radio stations to listen to in the car; guess I'd better stock up on CDs for the car. I'm def not listening to Moby; he's a jerk. I'm loyal to Rhubarb Jones at Eagle 106.7..he's a WG grad and Dallas McCade lives in/near Monroe..my hometown hometown.

I will assume that they are heading north.

Poor Jessica, she just got married.

There isn't anything posted on the www.randyandspiff.com except holiday greetings.

Maybe after the holidays...

Well. Looks like I have to go back to listening to my "Learn Chinese" tapes. The other 2 stations I listened to turned into "The River" and "The Ridge" and they claim to play classic 70s music but I've never heard of most of it.

Or I can start listening to the country music from Alabama that seems to be on most of the stations around here....

I've been listening to Randy and Spiff since 1989.

That's why I bought satellite radio. The Atlanta radio stations are subpar.

Satellite radio. Seriously, the radio stations in Central OH are horrific and Sirius is heaven sent. Worth every cent!

Awww..I love the Morning Zoo on 97.9 WNCI and 99.7 The Blitz. Luckily I am in an area where I can pick up Columbus, Dayton, and Cincinnati radio so there is always something to listen to!

Unhappy

Yeah, I just knew it was coming when I could hardly get the station over the weekend. I get my Christmas music fix on 98.5 but what the heck will I listen to after Christmas?

Some Christmas Present

The people who manage 94.9 obviously only know one of the two colors of Christmas. GREEN!! For years the station has played holiday music and built a loyal following. To pull the plug the week before Christmas with no notice is just wrong. I tuned on my radio on my way to work and hear my "regular" station and then bam with no notice I turn it on during my ride home and hear "BULL". I will never listen to this station again. The brash disregard for the thousands of loyal listeners to give no notice is a testiment to the we don't give a "Bull" attitude of the horned management. I hope this format fails miserably as the managment has done in showing respect to the people of Atlanta.

I just got home from my child's school Christmas party, and someone asked me what was up w/ 94.9 playing country music. I told them last time I listened, it was Christmas music. Then I get home and see this thread! Another country music station. Grrreat. At least, like Lynn mentioned, I can get the Rock-but unfortunately, along with it comes "Swap, Buy, and Sell," and funeral parlor obits.

Today in the Atl paper, there was an article about all the dj's that have been dumped so far in Atlanta. Unfortunately, one of those was my Alpha Gam sister, Stacy C at 95.5, the Beat. I never listened because I can't stand their music. I knew that she was in trouble when they brought on that male dj on her shift.

ETA: Stacy decided to move into sales for Cox Radio so that's good to hear. Since she just got married a few months ago, this should make home life easier..

Too cheap and I don't spend that much time in the car to purchase satellite radio.

2/5: Randy & Spiff find home at WGST

By Rodney Ho | Monday, February 5, 2007, 01:06 PM

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

randyandspiff.jpg

Talk about survivors: Randy & Spiff have landed their fourth home in five years, this time at WGST-AM from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. starting February 26.

The lightherated pair, who started in Atlanta at oldies Fox 97.1 from 1989 to 2003, moved to Cool 105.7 for two years after Fox went way, then migrated to sister station Lite 94.9 for 18 months when Cool died. Then the hosts lost jobs again Dec. 18, 2006 when Lite became 94.9/The Bull, a country station. Now they will be going without music for the first time.

“It will be a learning curve but we’re excited about it,” said Spiff Carner.

WGST had been airing repeats of the Wall Street Journal report in the mornings since November, when the station dumped Tom Hughes. Randy Cook said GST approached them a week after they were dropped from Lite 94.9. The negotiations took about five weeks but the two sides came to an unspecified deal that was signed today.

Cook and Carner will spend the next three weeks preparing for the launch, lining up interview subjects and getting comfortable doing longer talk segments.

Cook said the pair will have to target a different audience that’s far more male oriented than the Lite crowd. “This means less about breast cancer awareness and more about Hooters,” Cook joked. Though they will be able to delve into politics more, they said they’ll keep it light. Carner said they won’t come off as angry ideologues.

Carner is recovering from an accidental dog bite from his 35-pound Welsh corgie, who took a major chunk out of his nose last Thursday while they were playing. “I’m here at GST with a big white gauze bandage covering half my face,” he said, jokingly adding, “They’re changing me so I have a nose for news.”

If you want to email a congrats to them, go to www.randyandspiff.com.

I'd have to leave myself a post-it note because I only listen to am radio to get news and traffic.
