Where is the AO Legal Team?
And where is the AO Legal team? Why hasn't this movie been forced to be renamed so that there is no possible mis-association with Beta Theta Pi?

Dude...the only way I'll be pissed is if they don't do the Beta house proud. If it's portrayed as a 'Lamda, lamda, lamda' house I will be very disappointed.
Party on!

Well, I dont think it will be a Lamda Lamda Lamda house, more of a Alpha Beta house, which is worse I think? If you read the summary, the "geek" fraternity, as the synopsis puts it, is the rivals to the Beta House. Revenge of the Nerds, tables turned. Irony though, the synopsis says its about the wild antics of the Beta House of the University of Michigan! hmmmm...
Oldest Pledge, Im not sure if you are serious or being sarcastic? There is 24 greek letters, and well, they had to chose one. I dont think we have legal right over one letter! If it was called the Beta Theta Pi House, well, then we could have some legal fight.

Well... actually there are 27 Greek letters, though the other three (koph or qoph (Q), sampi, digamma (F) or waw/vav) would be very unlikely to be used - though they appeared in early forms of the language, they ended up being used only as numbers. And there may have been a 28th, called "yod" (J) because of some grammatical anomalies, but all this is very esoteric - though there is good reason to believe that Marshall at least knew about those first three.
However, according to my 20th edition of Baird's Manual - yes that is OUR Baird! - there are several of the common 24 which could readily serve:
Epsilon - only 2 listed, and they are defunct
Eta - only 3 - all honorary/recognition
Mu - only 3 - 2 honorary, 1 defunct
Rho - only 4 - 3 honor, 1 defunct
Upsilon - NONE
There was an episode of an old sitcom which used "the Betas" (I think it was "Father Knows Best"). Also I think there was a movie some years back that had "frats" of various names - I do not recall it, though others have told me it was funny. I had to point out that our REAL life for almost 170 years has been both far better and far worse than almost anything one will ever see on TV or movies.... just check out the Civil War, the Betrayal by Michigan, the union with Alpha Sigma Chi (Baird again) the Toronto chapter fund... the examples are endless....
Then again, any fraternity which forgets its history might as well close.

Amen. Heck, the way I look at it just about any instance of Greek life on tv is a good thing. As long as it doesn't involve sexual deviance/assault...and even then it can be pretty funny. Going Greek anyone?

Really? I don't think anyone told Gates. Oh, more near and dear to home, no one told Lugar either.
Side note: Did you know that Lugar was passed up for a bid from the Alpha Eta Chapter twice before he finally got in? He was too much of an academic for the chapter.

Good point about Gates...though he does have a pretty funny mug shot. I think getting arrested might revoke your nerd status.
Being smart does not make you a nerd.

I am absolutley serious. Beta Theta Pi chapters are know all over the US as "The Beta's" and our chapter houses are known at "the Beta House."
Because of this moniker, we can fight the naming of the movie under copyright and business law.
I for one say we should fight.
Call the movie "Tappa Kegge Brew."

How much effort should we focus on such a silly name? The movie is located at University of Michigan and they probably used the Beta House because it has some historical significance with Michigan.
But, if anyone has seen The Butterfly Effect, when Ashton Kutcher's car gets completely demolished. They say "must've been those Betas". Plus, we all know Kutcher was a Delta Chi at Iowa which had a pretty big Beta chapter when he was there.

I just saw American Pie: Naked Mile. I guess that is where the Beta house comes from. Beta something something is the name of the frat in that movie. It was dumb...funny cheap laughs. About what you expect from an AP movie.
I suppose American Pie: Beta House will take place using the same fraternity.
Also, I saw some a preview for another movie about greek life. Some chick rushing a sorority and crushing on the Beta President.
haha
