CSI Miami exhumes....

Rory Cochrane

I'm not quite sure how they're going to pull this off, but sources confirm that Rory Cochrane is returning to CSI: Miami this fall — three years after his character was fatally shot in the line of duty.

Cochrane — who asked to be released from his contract back in the summer of 2004 because "he couldn't really handle the grind anymore" — will appear in multiple episodes, beginning with this season's second.

This just in: Sources confirm that Cochrane is definitely returning as Speedle. Discuss amongst yourselves...

OMG I'm so excited. I HATED the way they killed Speedle off. At least it sounds like my theory that Speedle has been undercover (said the way Ben Bratt said it in Miss Congeniality, ).

I loved him, he's the only reason why I watched that show ever, because he was the only character that wasn't insanely cheesy.... David Caruso drives me absolutely insane! anyway, i'm excited.

Since I don't think Speedle will be shown via flashbacks, mainly because of the amount of episodes he will be appearing in, for me the logical solution is that he went undercover or he was part of the witness protection program and his death had to be faked. If that is the case, I hate to say this, but I truly hope he gets crap from Delko and Calleigh. I know that if my friend just showed up alive I'd be pissed, I wanna see them pissed. LOL.

I loved Speedle. I hate the character of Ryan. It will be interesting to see how he is incorporated back in.

When I read this yesterday I was like WTH? To me, he's been gone for so long I wouldn't care anyway. But the Witness Protecton Program case does sound logical. This is the same show that brought Horacio's brother back from the dead (and killed him off again).

Seriously? Am I the only one who thinks its dumb to bring him back as Speedle? I'm soo tired of shows killing off a character, and then the chacter with make a miracle recovery (once the actor realizes they want to return to the show). I hate it also when the show will kill them off, and then the character will come back and they'll act like they never died.

Ahhh if you kill off the character and the actor wants to return---create a different character. I wont care that its the same actor, but i will care if its the same character. Ugh!

Remember "Lost Son?" And the way Speeds's gun malfunctioned, causing Speed to be mortally wounded? If CBS is to be believed, maybe all of that didn't quite happen as you remember it.

"[Rory Cochrane] will be reprising the role of Tim Speedle and it's not a flashback," a spokesperson for CBS told E! Online, after rumours appeared on the internet suggesting Cochrane would be returning to CSI: Miami. The spokesperson added, "He will be interacting with his old partner and friend, Eric Delko."

Well I'm glad to know that it won't be a flashback, so obviously he has to have been undercover or in witness protection.

Cochrane's character was originally written out of CSI: Miami at the actor's own request. In his first interview after leaving the show, with CSI Files' Kristine Huntley, Cochrane said he felt the show "was never-ending and the grind was a lot." However, he also said he thought the way his character was written out of the show was "pretty lame," and was disappointed the writers couldn't come up with something "a little more imaginative." With his upcoming return to the show, Cochrane may now finally get the chance to say goodbye to Tim Speedle in a proper fashion.

I think it's cool that the writers are willing to let him come back, for only a couple of episodes and then write him out again. Especially since Rory hated the way they killed him off in the first place. It's like getting a reprieve and saying goodbye to your "friends" properly then leaving again.

I'm sure Horatio knew about what went down. I can't see Horatio not knowing. The same might go for Alex since Speedle's "body" had to be brought to the morgue.

I can totally see Calliegh going up to Speedle, giving him a hug, then beating the crap out of him for putting all of them through his 'death' and grieving, etc...

Well I needed to buy season 3 anyways, now I have a reason to rewatch Lost Son and figure out how they are going to pull of undercover or Witness protection. Either way I'm sure Horatio was in on it.

I saw that episode and the story was somewhat disappointing! I can't give away spoilers, but it was a letdown!

The only part that I truly liked was the end, when H and Delko were at Speedle's grave, otherwise I have to agree with CatStarESP4 it truly was a huge disappointment. I was expecting something else.

I truly thought it would have been more interesting, and more dramatic, to have not only Delko, but other members of the team, thinking that Speedle was still alive, (other than the whole credit card thing).

I'm sorry. I know that Eric and Speed were tight, but I would think that Eric would have illusions of his deceased sister rather than his former partner.

I hope this show's not jumping the shark.
