Help! Wedding Attire Question.
OK here's my situation. I'm going to a wedding this weekend with one of my friends from school. He knows the groom, who comes from a pretty wealthy family. The wedding is in NC and apparently the city is a wealthy, preppy, coastal town. He said his friend and his family are all "very southern." I know what I'm wearing for the actual wedding, but there is a party after the rehearsal dinner Friday evening that I'm not sure about. My friend said the attire for guys is a sportcoat (attire for the wedding is a suit, so think one step down from that), so what do you think I should be wearing? I'm leaning towards a dressy, beautiful sundress I have (not as dressy as what I'll be wearing for the wedding) with heels, but I'm not sure if this will be underdressed.
Ladies, any ideas?

The sundress with a cardigan would be good. It's supposed to be coldish (compared with the 90s today) this weekend here in NC.

Ditto on a cardigan or some other sort of wrap, just in case it is cold, or in case most of the ladies have their shoulders covered up. When I go to weddings I'll usually bring some sort of covering for the church portion.

The sundress is probably OK as long as it's appropriate for evening. If it's floral I guess it would look weird to me at night.

There's my dilema. It is floral but my roommate, who's from the south, is insisting that even though it's evening people will be in pastels. She said, "if the wedding was in New York, I'd say no, but considering it's a coastal town in the south, I think it's fine."
To describe it.. it's knee length, white with a green and black floral pattern. The only other time I've worn it was out to dinner in Italy.
Another dress I'm considering is this beautiful red one that I bought in Florence, Italy and have never worn. But I feel like wearing red to anything wedding-related isn't appropriate.

In the hardcore South, black, red, and white can all be eyebrow raisers at a wedding. The only * to that is if the wedding party is also wearing black or red. The sports coat does add to the causal attitude, though. Whichever you decide to go with, definitely have a wrap over your shoulders for the church portion - no matter how hot or cold it is (even though it's supposed to be fairly cool this weekend).
The dress you described does sound lovely, but unless you have a green cardigan, I'm not so sure it's the statement you wish to make.

I'm sorry, but that second dress above is awful. It looks like a potato sack in teal. The third one is not my cup of tea either.
Wish I could help you WVU, but the only place in the south I've ever been is West Palm Beach area in FL and Charlotte Airport.

I don't think I'd wear a sundress in October. Even if it is in the 90s, I would be surprised if anyone wore a sundress.
I think you have a perfect excuse to go shopping!

Exactly that's why I selected those dresses. Not for the colors but for the structure of the dress. A simply wrap dress would be greatly appropriate for this time of year in the South

Thank you ladies for the advice! Looks like I'll be hitting the malls in the next 2 days!

This isn't for the wedding, it's for the party after the rehearsal dinner.

If you're looking to drop some $$$$, South Park is the way to go. If you're looking on a budget, try Concord Mills.
