Flowers on "Present Day"

Do girls still receive flowers, at the sorority house, from relatives/friends on Presents??

It probably varies from chapter to chapter. At UC Berkeley they do, at Duke they don't (but they don't have a house).

Those are the only two with which I have personal experience. Maybe if you tell us the chapter then someone on here can give a more specific answer.

P.S. I'm sure even if no one else sends flowers and they are not typical, they will be received as a lovely gesture and maybe even start a tradition!

They definitely did up to a few years ago, so I would say yes. They used to send letters out to the parents about it, since I think they used to request specific flowers (red roses, I seem to recall, to stand out against the white dresses). Do you know if they sent a letter out this year?

I don't recommend you go out and buy red roses, since they are not Delta Gamma's flower and this may be something I remembered incorrectly

Thanks so much for the information. I do not think a letter went out to the parents this year.

Not dumb at all! Presents is the day where the new members are presented (to the sorority, parents, community members etc.). It is done some time during the new member period/around initiation time. Are there some chapters that do not have presents of any kind? At Duke we came from all over so we did our presents at our formal (they were presented to DGs and all our guests), since it was too far for most parents to come.

Pardon the forum crash...

My collegiate chapter also does Presents (pronounced Pree-sents, not Preh-sents ) and I was wondering if it was a regional thing? My alum chapter had alums from all over, but usually it was only the alums from the Western part of the US that knew what Presents actually was.

We don't have a chapter house, so our Presents ceremony was held at a nearby girls' school that had beautiful staircase that led down to the courtyard. Men from the fraternities escorted the PNM as she was "presented" to the guests. It was also here that the NM got her "alum chum" -- the alum version of her big sis.

Midwest chapter that did Presents! Ours was at our fall/spring semiformal. So it wasn't a parents thing so much as a sorority thing.

OK. Don't get it, but see what you're talking about, at least.
