Dream Wedding
What's everyone's idea of their dream wedding?
I guess I've been watching A Wedding Story too much lately, because every now and then, I see things and file it away in my head to remember for my own wedding.

Hee hee! I love a Wedding Story...it gives me ideas for my wedding!
I'd have to say my dream wedding will be my wedding day that I have planned so far! Wanna hear it?! I'm gonna tell anyway! LOL!
We're planning to get married next summer (no set date yet) in our hometown Halifax/Dartmouth, NS. So far I have my dress (which I love) and my bridesmaid's dresses (also beautiful!). Art and I want to get married at Public Gardens in Halifax under the gazebo there....it's beautiful! From there we'll head over to Alderney Landing (on the waterfront) for our reception. The guys will all be in tuxes with silver vests and the bridesmaids are in lavendar dresses.
I will be carrying a cascading bouquet of purple and white roses, with one single yellow rose in the center (for my sorority). My bridesmaids will all be carrying nosegays of purple and white roses too, with my 2 bridesmaids also having a single yellow rose in the center (my Maid of Honor is not a sister...but my best friend!). The guys will all have white rose boutonniers.
Right now we're trying to think of inventive ways to get to/from the ceremony. My mom's latest idea is to hire rickshaws to take the wedding party from the ceremony down to the waterfront and take the ferry across the harbour (a 10 min ride) and have us arrive that way....we're still thinking on it.
Other than the details I know this will be a dream wedding cause I'll be marrying my sweetie finally (we've been together almost 3 1/2 years now)....that's why it will be perfect!
Man....I babble too much about my wedding! Anyone else have ideas?!

I loved my wedding! My husband is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and we got married in the beautiful chapel there. It was cool, all the men wore their choker white uniforms and his friends made a sword arch for us to walk under when we left the chapel. Several groups of tourists even stood outside to watch us

ohhh, very good topic, this has been dwelling on my brain for a bit lately, lol
Anyway my dream wedding consists of 21 brides maides wearing blue off the shoulder simple bridesmaid dresses(you can wear them again, lol) carrying blue flowers tied with a white ribbion
ok my dress far from simple white off the shoulder dress with hand sewn white sequins starting in the middle and flowing down all the way to the train, which will be really long.. I have white and blue flowers.
Ok I am stuck where I want the wedding, either I want the wedding in a really big big catholic church, like some of the really pretty ones in NY or outside in like july at lke a mansion or something like that. Then after the wedding, a hugh paaarrtty and somewhere nice but remeberable.
phew finally off my brain now, lol
but thats my dream wedding

Simple, classic, elegant dress, in the palest of pinks--so that you're not quite sure if it is pink or white. no train. ivory tulips tied loosely with sheer pink and gold ribbon.
bridesmaids in ivory with pink tulips tied loosely with ivory and gold ribbon.
my nieces as flower girls in pink like me, with pink and ivory tulips.
barefoot on the beach at sunset in september.
reception under a tent on the beach, lots of dancing, lots of food, a fun and loose and casual good time.
and, as long as this is my dream wedding, LOL, the groom would be either Hugh Jackman, Dave Matthews, Jon Bon Jovi... ha ha haha

How fun! Thanks brooklineu for making my afternoon more bearable (been sutudying for finals)...your website is abssoltuely AWESOME!! I went to theknot.com and found some really great dresses too . I really liked a lot of your dresses that yuou picked out as well as many of Jennie's too . But for some reason, I can't copy and paste your pictures of the dresses that I liked onto this site, only the link, so I'll try to post pics from theknot.com
As for the other things, like cake, flowers, etc..i really don't know. But I know that the location will either be a gorgeous, magnificient church or like Amy said, on the beach at sunset...but I'd like mywedding to be in July or august ...
I'm a total romance person, so the more romantic the better...i would guess that everything (the decorations, the cake, etc.) will be simple, but just plain romantic and beauitufl.
The dresses that I like are all simple yet beautifully elegant. i want to look like an elegant princess! Here they are...
http://www.theknot.com/mynotebook.html?gowns.x=1 (this is my saved page of faves...i love ALL of them...but definitely the one in the second row, in the middle--that's my DREAM DRESS!)
You can click on any of them to enlarge--then you can see how beautiful they are!!
Thanks again brooklineu and juniorgrrl for the topic...now I gotta go back to studying .

That website is fantastic! I too have this thing about weddings and Prince Charming (I think on Ally McBeal they once called it "White Knight Syndrome!) And in my perfect wedding the guy is also a hockey player! Too funny!
Right now I am over my head with sister weddings. One is next month and we are all trying to help with crafts and stuff.
Then we have Sister Plums...Halifax will never be the same after Vera's wedding!! just joking! I am one of the bridesmaids and I can't wait for the wedding! It was amazing...we got the bridesmaid dresses in like 30 min and the mother of the bride dress in like ten! And Vera, I love the rickshaw thing!
I hope to have a wedding that is old fashioned. Like top hats and tails for the men and me in a veil that stays down the WHOLE ceremony until the "you may now kiss your bride" part. Plus I plan on saying "obey" in the TRADITIONAL wedding vows! I will arrive in a house drawn carriage. And my dress will have this HUGE train and I will have like 10 attendents and the colours will be....blue I think. But my dress will be HUGE! every year my sorority ball dress has to be the puffiest damn thing! And hopefully I will be marrying a Scot so that near the end of the ceremony we can do the whole changing clans tartan thing! (Scottish Ritual) And even though I don't attend church, I'm getting married in one! And a bagpiper will bring us back down the isle! (I'm Scottish! ) I will have pictures taken by waterfalls and in the bigggest gardens. And the party will go on all night at some fancy hotel while guests eat a buffet of fancy food! And after dancing the night away, in a room filled with flowers and bubbles from the top of this spiral staircase I will throw my bouquet of summer flowers and then be whisked away to the airport in a 1920's car, to have a wonderful honeymoon in...where else....Scotland! Just joking....but Europe somewhere.
But chances are I marry the local supermarket bag boy and we redezvous in Atlantic City (b/c we can't afford Vegas) where we get married by some kind of "priest" and my attendent is Edith the organ playing lady whose wearing some old-lady blue track suit (which matches that of her husband the "priest" as my wedding polaroid shows) to return home to a "kitchen party" where our family chows down on potluck food while I try not to spill any sloppy joes on my wedding attire of new jeans and GAP sweater (the sweater because his truck that drove me to the ceremony has only duct tape covering the back window) From there I will throw some dandelions from the trailor's steps and head over to the city's Holiday Inn for a one night "honeymoon".
(I should be writing an essay right now for a political science class...can you tell that I am procrastinating much???)

Tracy,
Sounds like you had the picture perfect wedding. I love Annapolis. I went to football camp there for a few summers in the 80s when I was in H.S. My parents and I used to frequent the Charthouse there. My father was a Marine Officer for 20 years and married my mom back in 69 at the Quantico Marine Chapel and of course I wasnt born yet. I've only been to 2 weddings actually. My younger brothers and my cousin on my moms side. My brothers wedding was in Puerto Rico. The reception was awesome there at the Ritz Carrolton with the violinists playing. My cousins was at Myrtle Beach and was done right outside the hotel by the beach. Weddings are definitely fun.

I realized I forgot to describe my own wedding
I have always said I was going to use my dress from my cotillion for my wedding - and I might. I had it made, but its based on a Vera Wang. Its dupioni silk (raw silk) and its very simple. Its sleeveless and has several seams all around the bodice. Its absolutely gorgeous. Although, I'd probably add some pearls around the neckline and hemline if I wore it for my wedding.
I want to get married at Holy Name of Jesus Church in New Orleans (its the church on the campus of Loyola University). Its where my parents were married. Haven't decided on the reception yet.
I know my cousin will be my maid of honor (even though she's only 10 now) and her little sister will be the flower girl. Their older brother will be a groomsman. Actually, if I don't walk down the aisle by myself, I'll have him give me away (my dad died when I was 14).
I want a regular "wedding cake flavor" cake, with a basket weave pattern and live flowers on top.
And for the entertainment, Jimmy Buffett, of course! (although, I hear private parties come 2 million a pop, so I should start on the get-rich qick scheme pretty soon )

Another fun topic!!!
When I was little, I read about a wedding in which the bridesmaids wore graduated shades of pink, from palest pink going through a dark shade and swore I would do that. I didn't understand why my mom told me that my groom couldn't wear pink too!
Later, I decided that if I had an autumn wedding that maybe shades of peach would do...
But time makes its own surprises and we were married just before Christmas in a lovely old stone church. The bridesmaids wore forest green and carried crescent bouquets of tiny evergreen branches, peppermint carnations, and little red Christmas balls. (Looked a lot better than it sounds!)
And no, I did not make Mr. Carnation wear forest green.

One of my friends got married a while back and when she was planning, she asked to borrow my laptop so they could make a powerpoint presentation for the reception. I was like, "why the heck do you want a powerpoint presentation at your wedding???" BUt, it was actually really cool. They took tons of pictures, both of just themselves when they were little and of them together in the couple years before the wedding. They set it all to music and had little captions that made the whole thing a sweet story and it was really quite classy (not at all tacky like it sounds). It was kind of like a Wedding Story when it's just so sweet and cool it makes you cry! Anyway, I really want to do it, too, perhaps in a slightly different format. It wouldn't be long or boring at all, but just a little thing for everyone to share in the two people's history and lives and it's like their own personal Hollywood movie!

My dream wedding will take place in a beautiful cathedral on a sunny day in May. My dress will be very classic and rather simple - perhaps like Caroline Bessette Kennedy's - and I will wear a strand of pearls and matching earring or a diamond solitaire necklace and matching earrings. My bridesmaids will wear a deep dusty rose and carry matching bouquets - all will wear pearls. My sister will sing for us (she has a voice from God) and we will go to Bermuda for our honeymoon.

(sigh)
Well, after all the whoo-ha and hoop-la, I'm not getting married , but it's for the best. I still dream of a beach front wedding on the Virgin Islands though, right at sunset....
BTW, brooklineu, you put together a really nice site. I especially like the "Don't let this happen to you" area(aka "Would you be caught dead in that?") LOL
