How I Met Your... Sorority (A Fall 09 Rush Thread)

Another PNM (I'll call her Suzie) just finished rush today and so now it's time to share her story! She already has friends who have pledged at other universities (including the PNM in my rec-girl thread), so Suzie was very excited to go through recruitment at her school. However, a couple of her close friends have also dropped out of their respective recruitments (I didn't post those stories), so she did approach recruitment with a degree of trepidation.

At her school, the chapters are:
Alpha Omicron Pi
Alpha Xi Delta
Delta Zeta
Phi Mu
Zeta Tau Alpha

And I'll be naming them after characters from How I Met Your Mother:
Lily
Marshall
Ted
Barney
Robin

While Suzie's school does not have a DG chapter and thus I could not provide a rec, I was glad that she sent me fabulous updates throughout recruitment!

For day one, Suzie and her IIX group visited all 5 houses. On Suzie's campus, PNMs visit up to 4 for round 2, up to 3 for round 3, and up to 2 for prefs.

Here's what Suzie felt about each house on day 1:

Lily: Suzie has close connections with this group already, including several friends from high school. She expected to like this group and did; she also felt that they liked her back.

Marshall: These girls were very nice to Suzie, but she didn't really feel like she got to meet as many of them as she did at some other houses. She didn't necessarily feel like she got a definite feel for the personality of the house.

Ted: Suzie and Ted did not get along. Suzie felt uncomfortable in some conversations at this house and didn't feel like she fit in here.

Barney: Suzie felt similarly about Barney and Marshall. She didn't dislike Barney, but she didn't really feel like she got to know the house as well as the others.

Robin: Suzie had heard great things about this house going into recruitment and was very impressed... they seemed smart, sweet, and pretty, as well as easy to get along with. She had a lot in common with the girls she met at this house.

After day 1, Suzie ranked:
1/2. Lily/Robin. It's too soon to tell which one is #1 and #2, but they are definitely her top chapters!
3/4. Marshall/Barney. Even though she loves Lily/Robin most, she wants to give these chapters another chance during day two, when she will spend more time at the houses.
5. Ted. Suzie felt it was easy to rank this chapter last. This was the only chapter where she felt out of place.

Alright, so Suzie was very pleased when she got her day two invites and was invited back to:
Lily
Marshall
Barney
Robin

She was all but certain that she'd love Lily and Robin again... but things don't always turn out the way we expect.

Lily: Suzie doesn't dislike Lily. At all. In fact, she has friends in this house and she has been told by older friends on campus that this is a strong house to be part of. She should, by all rights, love Lily... but she started to realize during the longer round two parties that she doesn't really feel like she fits in well here when compared to other houses.

Marshall: Suzie got to know Marshall a lot better during the second round, but she still didn't feel that spark that she felt with her round one favorites. She definitely felt that continuing to get to know Marshall during round three would be beneficial, since she liked them more on day two than day one.

Barney: Suzie LOVES Barney. She really enjoyed goofing around with the sisters she met today and found a lot of common interests with them. She could definitely see herself here based on what she saw of this chapter on day two.

Robin: Suzie still loves Robin. She again got along with everyone she met and felt like a VIP PNM when she was introduced to several officers. These girls really made Suzie feel at home!

So, after round two, Suzie ranks the chapters:
1/2. Barney/Robin. Suzie says it would be impossible to say one is better than the other at this point.
3. Marshall. Suzie still wants to get to know these girls better.
4. Lily. Suzie is confident that she knows enough about this chapter to know that she won't be a good fit.

Marshall

Robin

She was very happy to be invited to her top 3 chapters!

Marshall: Suzie enjoys these girls more each round, but still doesn't feel that pull of sisterhood.

Barney: Suzie again enjoyed goofing around with these girls. So much so, in fact, that a girl who attended this party with her said it was like she was already a member!

Robin: Suzie still really loves this chapter. While Barney matches up with the goofy, fun-loving parts of her personality, Robin matches up with the classy, more reserved parts.

After day three, Suzie ranks the houses:
1/2. Barney/Robin. How could a girl choose?
3. Marshall. She likes this house, but not as much as her top two.

Oh well, Suzie thought. I'll just attend my prefs and of course I'll rank Barney first and Marshall second afterward.
