dgdramadawg's 2007 rec group thread

Well, the results are pouring in from my rec group! (Note: This group includes both girls I wrote them for and girls I helped find them for schools that did not have DG chapters.) I have a few at Auburn, a few at UGA, one at Ole Miss, a few at Bama... you get the idea. This will be a thread that keeps going and going and going...

I had three ladies at Auburn this year! One pledged PI BETA PHI, another pledged PHI MU, and a third (my sister's friend of many years) pledged DELTA GAMMA!!!! They're all very happy and had stellar recruitments where they were really able to pick and choose.

My sister also had two friends rushing at Georgia Southern who pledged PHI MU.

On the UGA front, I heard today about a PNM who was invited to her top 12 choices for round two. How awesome for her! I've heard of a girl having a full schedule for round two, but I have never heard of anyone getting her entire top 12.

In addition, one of my former students just finished rush at Valdosta State University and I thought her recruitment story was definitely worth sharing. It's a great example of maximizing options and being open minded!

"KIKI'S" VSU STORY: I have no time to craft anything suspenseful, so you're getting it all at once!

VSU has 5 houses (named here as grocery stores):
Publix
Kroger
Super Stop and Shop
Goodings
Winn-Dixie

For round one, Kiki visited all five houses. She really enjoyed all of them. Of course, she noted that a couple of the houses weren't exactly perfect fits, but overall she was comfortable everywhere she visited. She heard some talk about what houses were "popular," but tried to make her own decisions.

For philanthropy round she was invited back for four houses:

Publix
Kroger
Goodings
Winn-Dixie

Her favorites this round were definitely Publix and Winn-Dixie! She met rushers at both houses whom she felt a much stronger connection with than Kroger and Goodings. Don't get me wrong, she liked Kroger and Goodings just fine, but it wasn't the same connection that she felt at Publix and Winn-Dixie. Of course, you'd have to imagine her surprise when she was then only invited to two parties for the third round:

Kroger
Goodings

Gasp! No Publix AND no Winn-Dixie! Kiki became very, very worried that she might not end up with a bid. She noticed that some girls were dropping out of recruitment and even contemplated doing the same. However, she visited both houses and enjoyed herself at them; she also definitely felt that Kroger was a stronger connection than Goodings. At this point, she even mentioned the possibility of suiciding Kroger. Well, she got her prefs schedule:

Kroger
Goodings

She was glad to have two parties to attend and relieved not to be cut by Kroger. She attended both and then a magical thing happened... she ended up putting GOODINGS first after all! She is so glad that she didn't decide to drop out when things got scary after round two and she's certainly happy that she gave Goodings a chance at prefs, even when she thought she was certainly going to be a member of Kroger!

Kiki is now a new member of ZETA TAU ALPHA!!!

So, the tally so far:
1 Delta Gamma
1 Pi Beta Phi
3 Phi Mu
1 Zeta Tau Alpha

Just got an e-mail from one of my former students... she went PHI MU at GCSU! Man, Phi Mu is just racking them up in this thread!

UGA bid day is today and I'm hoping to have several bits of good news. My sister had many friends who rushed there and all but one attended three prefs (the other dropped out after round two).

The first of the UGA results are in... one of my rec girls went GAMMA PHI BETA! She is so excited, as they were her first choice during prefs.

Congrats to both girls and to two great chapters for pledging them.

"Goodings"? You have to be from the Orlando area. I don't remember seeing that store anywhere else.

Gotta love the drive-in grocery store!

I moved around a lot as a kid, hence Goodings and Super Stop and Shop in the same thread.

There are only two Gooding stores left in Central Florida now. One is located on I-Drive the other is in Lake Buena Vista. Too bad. I used to love shopping there.
