Talking Good News!!!

After 13 long grueling days of crossing the picket lines and enduring verbal harassment from the professors...the UHPA strike is now over!!! Teachers report back to work tomorrow, but we won't have to go back till Thursday. The faculty got their 10% pay raises across the board, their 2% merit pay, and everything else they wanted. The union still has to ratify it, which may take a week, but they think that it'll be passed.

Right now it doesn't seem like they're going to extend the semester for the days lost, but I have a feeling that the professors are going to have a heckuva time trying to make up for lost time, especially since the last day of instruction in May 2.

Now...it's back to reality for me! The things that I've put off doing during the strike are now coming back to haunt me.

The HSTA public school teachers strike is still going on, but unfortunately...they're nowhere close to a settlement. Please keep Hawaii's children in your thoughts as the school year comes to an end. Thanks.

I heard it on NPR this morning - that's great news. Hopefully the public school teachers will settle this week, too.

I just saw it on HeadlineNews. Way to go profs! Holin' out for whats yours! Now, get back to class OTW! At least your friends will still graduate on time. The teachers are still in my prayers. Lets hope this puts some pressure on the Gov. to settle this one too.

Angry

And now for some not so good news:

Yay the strike is over...yada yada yada, but because we missed so many classes they're forcing us to go to school on Saturdays and Sundays. If you don't believe me, visit http://www.uhm.hawaii.edu/welcomebackuhm/ . I don't know how the professors are going to handle this since many of us work and many people have religious observances on Saturday and Sunday. Pardon my language but when I went back to school today I wanted to barf after I found this out! I suddenly wanted to be religious again after I read the paper.

We lose our two study days as we go straight into finals week May 7-11.

I know that things need to be done to salvage the semester, but...

going to school 7 days a week is unethical!

GEEZ! I HATE SCHOOL!

I'm really missing those picket signs right now.

I beg that you please keep me in your thoughts as I endure this LIFE CRISIS!
