U.S. Congress to Recognize
National Women's Friendship Day
The United States Congress is in the process of passing a permanent resolution to recognize National Women's Friendship Day the third Sunday in September every year. This is a major accomplishment for National Women's Friendship Day and Kappa Delta.
Join in the excitement!
Write or e-mail your representatives and senators requesting their support of the pending legislation.
Just visit the Web site to find the names of your particular representatives and senators. A sample letter is also included to make it easy and quick. It takes just minutes of your time to add your voice to this initiative. We ask that you send your requests right away, as we hope to have the resolution passed in both the House and the Senate by Thursday, September 13 in time for National Women's Friendship Day on September 16.
The lead sponsors of the resolution are U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen of Memphis and U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander from Tennessee. If either or both of these men represent your district or state, please write to thank them for their support. For all other members of Congress, please ask them to vote in favor of the National Women' s Friendship Day resolution and/or add their names to the legislation as a sponsor.
Kappa Delta took the initiative to reach out to women outside our circle when we created National Women's Friendship Day in 1999. All women find life sweeter and more meaningful when we have women friends to share our triumphs, our sorrows and all those special moments in life. National Women's Friendship Day provides women, both Kappa Deltas and non-KDs, the chance to pause and remember just how special life is with our friends. It's a time to celebrate the power of women who come together as friends to make a difference in the world.
