just the general information as far as how big the system is or how competitive the rush process is... that kind of stuff
I am transferring across the country ( as I went to california school) and worried that I am so far away from home and dont know anyone (or anything about sororities). my old school greek system was a pretty closed community where it's not uncommon for the members to hang out just within greek community and there were lots of gossips as in which one's bad or good, etc

I heard from my friends that go to new york schools and they've been telling me that suny greek system is quite different from other state schools.

If you actually joined a sorority at your old school, you will not be able to join a different one in NY.

From what I understand the SUNY system is not a very competitive one and it shouldn't be too much of a hindrance for you. You really don't need recommendations, but if you're a legacy to any of the chapters there or if you have friends in other chapter of any of the sororities at Binghamton I say it won't hurt, otherwise, I really wouldn't go out of your way to get one. I don't think that the sororities have houses, and the chapters there aren't huge by any means, they're probably a lot smaller than the ones in California, but they are larger than some other schools.

I love the name of this school. How is SUNY pronounced- is it like "a sunny day" or is it more "soon-ie"? Sorry, I know this is totally off topic...
