who's your fave?
Does anyone else find themselves at work (or at school) needing there to be a juicy topic on here that they can contribute to? As a GC-aholic, I definately do!
So here's what I wanna know. There's all this talk in the greeklife forum about which stars of movies, tv and sports are Greek. So, along that line, but ignoring the greek part, who is your favorite star, (musician(s), actors etc) and, similarly, who do you think has no business being so popular(i.e. has no real talent and yet is loved by millions)?
No fighting tho! People with no talent are popular for a reason. Some people actually like them!

Ben Afflec is my favorite because I read some where we have the same birthday. I don't know if he is Greek or not.

My favorite musician at the moment is Dave Matthews and I'm thrilled that he is playing a Jazz Fest this year. It will be my first time seeing him live! God I love that man, if he ever breaks up with Ashley(his wife) I will be there to comfort him(he,he)
The person that has no business being so popular(and I'm going to get flamed) is Britney Spears. Is she an alto or a sorpano? And if she thinks the only way for her to gain fans is to rip off her clothes at a drop of a hat, then something is seriously wrong

I totally forgot to answer that question myself.
I too am in love with Dave Matthews. No dates in Toronto for his tour yet tho
 . I'm still hoping.
As for the person who has no talent....please, no one yell. He's not hard on the eyes but I just can't take Keanu Reeves seriously. Boy just can't act.
Thought I'd add my two cents seeing as how I started the thread!

I won't flame you girl - 110% total agreement!
I will always love Mel Gibson, Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, and Meg Ryan for the same reason -- no matter what role they play, they make you really feel the character. How many women can watch Pretty Woman and not really feel like a princess even from our living room? Mel Gibson is just a great character always - Ransom - he made you feel the desperation. Tom Hanks - you name it!! Meg Ryan - especially in Addicted to Love -- you just feel all their roles!
My main beef with most greek celebs is that they could be doing so much for our philanthropies, but no one seems to want their name attached to greek letters. They could really expose some of the stereotypes if they would promote our org's and what our philanthropies are. There are people who are watching and hanging on every word!!

In the spirit of Jeopardy:
Who is Marshall Mathers (alias "Eminem")?
My opinion is that he's a nincompoop , but hey, to each their own.
He's in minute #14 of his alloted 15, I figure.

After pondering this question long and hard, this is what I came up with!
Muscian: Although I don't own many of her CD's I'd have to say Madonna. WHY? Because she's always reinventing herself and it appeals to the masses at one point or another. Just awesome!
Actor: Hubba Hubba Nicholas Cage! WoW! He's just scrumptious and a really good actor! I don't think he's got a lot of depth to many of his characters, but given the right movie he does well the majority of the time!
Actress: Julia Roberts! Can we just say that women has CLASS!?!?! Everything about her is fantabulous (IMHO). Beautiful red hair, a great laugh, wonderful poise...just AWESOME (plus she has REAL talent).
No business being popular: Even though I sorta like him, I'm gonna have to say Tom Green . He's SO stupid and that's why he's funny. But in my opinion almost ANYBODY could get away with doing dumb crap on the streets. It's just that somebody pays him to do it on national tv.
Oh...and I just thought of one more. This person I belive should be flipping burgers. HOWARD STERN! What a GEEK! I hate him SO much. No one makes me MORE angry than him! He's sexist and arrogant! He thinks he should be laid by every beautiful woman that walks into his studio! Personally I wouldn't touch him with a 10,000 foot poll!

I think that Russell Crowe is too sexy to be alive. Not only that - he's a really wonderful actor. As for females, there just aren't any really strong female leads right now. Francis McDormand from Fargo and Wonder Boys is really great, but she doesn't get a lot of credit. I think Angelina Jolie is extremely talented - she's just a little weird.
Those with no talent - I could go on for days. Every teeny-bopper type sugur coated sweetie on the freaking radio needs to realize that they are horrible examples for young girls. "I'm popular becuase I'm beautiful and can take off my clothes!" As for all the boy bands - can anyone say New Kids on the Block??? Movie people that have no talent in films are Leonardo Dicaprio, Wynona Ryder, Jennifer Lopez, and (I agree) Tom Greene. Oh - and all the Friends. Yak!
I kind of disagree with the Keanu thing. He is really talented at standing there and looking serene (or stoned). Whoa.

I can't decide if you're agreeing or disagreeing with me!!! But refer to the Sweet November thread. I'm not suprised. Charlese Theron is a great actress. The story line must be good because it is a remake. That leaves only one person to ruin the movie...Mr. Reeves.
I thought of someone else that has no business being famous...Brenden Fraser. That guy is either pigeon holed into lame movies or he keeps getting those scripts because that's all he's good at. Hard to know I suppose. Didn't he do a movie with Pauly Shore? That would explain so much vis-a-vis being pigeon holed. Once you've been in a Pauly Shore movie, there's no turning back. So, I guess we can add him to my list also .

LOL
I was the first one at the store this morning. Was the first one there to get my hands on the CD. Got in as much listening as I could before I had to go to work. I just closed my eyes and sat back and enjoyed every note. I think it's his best disc yet . Man, I love him! Any other DMB fanatics out there???

Leslie,
I can relate!
I actually got my hands on the CD a few weeks ago... I know I know, but I've worked in the industry for YEARS to get those connections! ha ha
I love the CD too. Esp. Angel and Space Between.
Check out Napster if you haven't TONS of early 90's bootleg DMB shows there from when they used to play in and around Charlottesville VA.

The new cd is really different than his old stuff. it's weird but i like it. the rolling stone article you spoke of explains why it's so different. don't know if you read the article but it's a bit disturbing. it actually upset me to read. but it's a great article. pick it up if you can.
