Question US News/Princeton Review

Has your school (or a school you are very familiar with) been mentioned in either of these "best colleges" type issues? Did you find it accurate or totally lame?

Hi! I can't really answer your question, since I'm not in college yet, but my mother buys it for me....and I read it, but I take it with a grain of salt.

However, the statistics (such as the teacher-student ratio, the alumni giving, the freshmen retention rate) help me some!

Also, it helps me to see which majors are most popular at the school, since I'm thinking about Psychology, Sociology, or Education.

I find them pretty inaccurate. It listed the student teacher ratio at my school something like 20 or 25 to 1. I'm not sure where they got that kind of ratio. My smallest class had 150 students! They must have counted every TA on campus, twice!!

Every year Maclean's Magazine puts out an issue rating Canada's universities and it's fairly accurate. UBC is usually one or two for medecine, and usually in the top 5 for overall best university .

USC is always mentioned in these publications. It seems fairly accurate, if slightly outdated on #'s. We were Time's Unversity of the Year for 2000, too.

The reviews for my school are usually pretty ridiculous - part of it is the University's fault though, we don't release enterance scores etc. to the media. Also we have a "General Studies" college for intermediate applicants, and an urban campus - our academics get ranked very highly, then we end up in the second tier due to those. But whatever, they're just not all that accurate in terms of student life. It has to be tough to put those out though, for that reason.

I think mine was named Most Academicly Challenging in the region. Not sure if it was princeton review or some other poll though.

I think somewhere I read my school(George Mason University) was one of the most WIRED(in terms of IT) in the country. Our Law School is ranked pretty high too.

Is the princeton review site...
Look up your college and then read the student opinions! Some of them are too funny!

Why is "Major Frat and Sorority Scene" located under the "Parties Rankings" on that web site? So stereotypical...
