Sicko ~ Michael Moore's Newest Documentary
Is anyone going to see it? I heard about it yesterday and definitely plan to go see it next weekend.
Synopsis
'SiCKO' opening June 29, 2007
The words "health care" and "comedy" aren't usually found in the same sentence, but in Academy Award winning filmmaker Michael Moore's new movie 'SiCKO,' they go together hand in (rubber) glove.
Opening with profiles of several ordinary Americans whose lives have been disrupted, shattered, and—in some cases—ended by health care catastrophe, the film makes clear that the crisis doesn't only affect the 47 million uninsured citizens—millions of others who dutifully pay their premiums often get strangled by bureaucratic red tape as well.
After detailing just how the system got into such a mess (the short answer: profits and Nixon), we are whisked around the world, visiting countries including Canada, Great Britain and France, where all citizens receive free medical benefits. Finally, Moore gathers a group of 9/11 heroes – rescue workers now suffering from debilitating illnesses who have been denied medical attention in the US. He takes them to a most unexpected place, and in addition to finally receiving care, they also engage in some unexpected diplomacy.
While Moore's 'SiCKO' follows the trailblazing path of previous hit films, the Oscar-winning BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE and all-time box-office documentary champ FAHRENHEIT 9/11, it is also something very different for Michael Moore. 'SiCKO' is a straight-from-the-heart portrait of the crazy and sometimes cruel U.S. health care system, told from the vantage of everyday people faced with extraordinary and bizarre challenges in their quest for basic health coverage.
In the tradition of Mark Twain or Will Rogers, 'SiCKO' uses humor to tell these compelling stories, leading the audience conclude that an alternative system is the only possible answer.

I work in this field so I know I am intrigued to see the film. I know what I go through trying to advocate for patients on a daily basis so to get to see some of the bureaucratic things will add more pieces to my puzzle.

I'm glad to hear that people are liking the movie. I guess I will go to see it now so I know how to respond when people ask me about it. I work in the healthcare field so it is inevitable.

here is the ENTIRE movie.... http://files.filefront.com/sicko.avi.../fileinfo.html
though it is very one sided, it's a touching movie... I worked in the health insurance field for a minute, and I really don't think I could go back...

I love Michael Moore, so I'll definitely see this, though it might take me a minute to do so.

Moore hits snag on Wall Street promoting SiCKO
Michael Moore was barred from the New York Stock Exchange for an interview on his documentary on the US health-care system, a day after he was bumped from a national TV interview to make way for Paris Hilton.
Standing outside the Stock Exchange in Manhattan's financial district, Moore told reporters a planned interview with CNBC on the exchange floor was moved outside the building because the network told him the exchange would not let him inside.
On Wednesday, his appearance on CNN's Larry King Live was postponed for the first post-jail interview with Hilton, a reality TV star and hotel heiress. Moore is now scheduled to appear on the show on Friday night.
"Having been bumped from Larry King last night for Paris Hilton, I am beginning to take things personally," said Moore, whose film SiCKO which criticises corporate interests behind the US health-care system opens on Friday. "The priorities in this country are seriously askew."

After being the chair for 3 health FORUMS where I got physicians to present information beyond their allotted 15 minutes per patient, I have found that the quality of care and intention to treat is being decided by business individuals and not by trained healthcare professionals.
I have been jacked by the healthcare system and I am part of the system. All I know, is I harass by physicians with my own knowledge. I post often because complaints get put in your file. And when I have a problem, and they chose NOT to treat, they know they do not what to be sued by someone like me.
My folks are starting to have difficulty and my father is not doing as well as to be expected. Guess what I am going to have to do!
Oh well.

I haven't seen the movie yet. But I thin I'll wait for it to comeout on DVD. I hate going to the movies to be informed. I watched 911 at the movies, and it didn't feel right. Entertain me at the movies. Inform me elsewhere.

I saw the movie this past Friday and it really makes you think. I used to work for an HMO and I can tell you that this stuff happens. Its sad to see people work so hard all of their lives and after they retire, they can't afford to pay for their hospital and doctor bills. Something has to change.

Even though i can't speak for all HMOs, on my first day of work at the HMO, they told me that their primary goal is to save the company money. I've seen people denied life saving treatments because the cost for the procedure was too high. It was really sad.
