Post Fitness/Routine

Physical fitness,
anyone want to share their routines for keeping your desired body fat %?

For my routine, I hit the gym on average 2/3 times a week. For cardio, I alternate between jogging or using my stationery bike on a daily basis. I take a supplement called hyper cuts on the cardio but don't take anything for the weights.

If anyone has any great workout routines, let's hear it

Right now, I work out 6 times a week. 45-55 minutes on the treadmill, 30 minutes strength training. Starting next week, I am adding water walking and aqua-cise. The week after that, I am adding a tennis class. So, right now, I am an exercise fanatic. I do it because I am 1) proud of myself when I am done 2) have never felt better about myself and 3) my chronic fatigue and depression are gone! I have some fitness goals for the year, including being able to FINALLY hold up my end of a tennis rally and to qualify for my local Masters Swim Team. I am not a runner, but would love to try a 5K run with the next 2 years.

I take 9-12 vitamins a day, compounded for greater absorbtion, eat what I want in healthy portions, and laugh a LOT! It all contributes to me being happier at 26 than I ever have been and getting happier and more full of self-love everyday!

Gym 3X per week..
30min cardio (usually treadmill)
1.5+hrs weights (depends on crowds)
30min cardio (again, usually treadmill)

On alternating days I mtn bike (year round bikable weather in AZ) for about 3 hrs or climb at the indoor rock gym.

In summer I swim pretty much every day. Hike on Saturdays (if I'm not biking)...

sigmagrrl - you sound like you enjoy being active like me. At 25 I have never been healthier, happier, and more rounded!!! Who says getting older sucks?

That's great, swimming is definitely one of the best physical exercises there is.
I'm thinking of joining kung fu as well, one of my bros is in it and it's incredible for the body.

My diet is very healthy, I try to eat the most heathiest foods all the time. For example, when I came back from the gym last night I had whey protein mixed with 1% milk, two bananas, and a granola bar. It's either i eat like this or give up alcohol

hey dc1, do you find you have less energy for the weights after you were on the treadmill?

Actually quite the opposite... the half hour on the treadmill serves as my warm up to the exercise. The half hour after my workout serves as my cooldown.
I've timed my workout to where the first quarter of weights is upper, giving my legs time to rest after the run.
I time it like this:
Run
Upper Body
Lower Body
Upper Body
Lower Body
Upper Body
Run

Here's a question: How do any of you alleviate the guilt of skipping a day of working out? I am not talking just not going, I am talking about the one day a week set aside as a day off! I feel so guilty on those days!!

Yoga is a workout!! I do aerobics, run, lift weights and other activities but you would be surprised at what yoga does for you. It makes you more flexible and strengthens the muscles substantially. And most importantly it definitely gives you piece of mind and provides relaxation. I used to think yoga was crazy and pointless. Then I started doing it with Denise Austin in the mornings on Lifetime and I'll tell you it's no joke. It looks easy when you just watch but when you do it, it hurts like hell but feel so good to the body. Don't knock it until you try it. After all, Madonna says that yoga is pretty much the only thing she does and she looks great!! Although I'm sure she does advanced yoga (I'm just a beginner )!

Cool

I love yoga, too. I run 4 miles a day and a good 30 minute yoga session is worth every second.

Well I have just really gotten into it myself the last few weeks to a month but I am already addicted to it. I do Denise Austin 4-5 times a week before I go to work and like I said she finishes with yoga. I just bought my first whole yoga tape but I haven't used it yet. I don't know if there are different types of yoga, being new to it and all, but there are positions like warrior, sun salutations, plank, strethcing at certain angles, etc. and they all make my legs, arms and abs burn. When you do moves like these and concentrate on the muscles, you can feel them working. Also, you breathe in and out your nose and keep your abs tight which is harder than breathing in the nose and out the mouth. I was just reading on a website today that a 79 year old woman teaches a yoga class and is very flexible, strong, and healthy. If you're able to watch Lifetime, then I would suggest just try one 1/2 hour workout with Denise Austin (7 and 7:30am Eastern). Do the whole workout and then finish with the yoga portion and tell me what you think. She mostly uses the yoga at the end of the first 1/2 hour but sometimes at the end of both 1/2 hours.

I workout 3-4 times a week.

I do cardio 3x a week for 30-45 minutes on the elliptical (sp?) machine. This machine is no joke.

I also take a weightlifting class 2x a week, Kwando once a week and a hi-low aerobics class once a week.

I've taken yoga before and it is a great workout.

Yoga is very much a work out. Have you seen that NIKE (I think) commerical where it has the woman curling her legs around to touch her head? The screen says "I've never owned a ball" . . . that is a yoga move and I know you HAVE to be flexable and in shape to do something like that! If you haven't seen that commerical--well, just imagine laying on your chest and bending your legs all the way around to touch your head, like you're standinging on it--if that makes sense. lol

The yoga tapes I bought came in a box set. There's a cardio-vascular tape, a tape that focuses on the arms and abs, a tape that focuses on the legs and but, and one that focuses on the meditative side of it all.

While I searched for tapes to buy, I saw yoga tapes for people with bad backs, people who want to lose weight, power yoga (I'm guessing advanced?) . . .

There ARE different types, but I don't know much about them. I should rephrase that, there are different variations. Most named after an instructor who came up with their own types of moves. I know of one that is advanced where the instructor hikes the heat up to 90-100 degrees because he feels that it allows the muscles to stretch more. I really don't know much about different variations though.
