Cool Rush~ Round 2

After going through a 'bad' rush last year, I have just recently decided to rush again. Last year I was cut the day before pref . I hope to keep updating this post throughout the summer and fall. Wish me luck!

The chapters on my campus are:

~apples: I only know one girl in apples. Don't really know much about the girls.
~oranges: LOVED this chapter last year; however, I know that a lot can change in a year
~peaches: did not 'click' with them last year...still don't really know anyone in this sorority
~kiwis: really liked this chapter

Any tips? Besides being myself of course!!

Good luck. Just make sure you have everything covered....recs, grades, appropriate questions to ask, etc. Keep an open mind, too. Not "clicking" in rush doesn't really mean that much. These parties are so quick...try your best to be proactive and get to the bottom of what makes each group special. The skits and chants aren't going to tell you anything!

There are literally HUNDREDS of threads about what to do/not to do during rush here on GC. Read as many as you can, especially the stickied ones, and learn from them. AND THEN - remember that everything said on those threads are peoples OPINIONS based on their own experiences, and nothing is set in stone.

Best of luck!

It sounds like you feel neutral or better about all of these groups, which is great. Can we know what region of the country you're attending school?

Good luck!

I agree with the other suggestions to review some of the old "what to do/what not to do" threads. It sounds like you're open minded about the groups, which is a good attitude. Formal recruitment is hectic, so feeling like you didn't click the first time through isn't necessarily a bad sign...you might go back through this year and fall in love with the women of the house!

Not sure what your campus is like, but since there are only 4 sororities I'm assuming maybe its a little more low-key, with possibly smaller houses. Remember this - if the average chapter size on your campus is not huge, the "personality" of a sorority can turn around quickly - sometimes it only takes one pledge class! Each of the chapters could have went through changes in the past year, and also each of them could have the potential for change through the upcoming pledge class. Definitely give them all a chance keeping that in mind.

And, although your campus may not require them, it never hurts to get rec letters!

: )

I go to a school in Illinois ; ) I know that there has to be an answer to this in another post, but.....most of the women I know who were in sororities in college do not have chapters on my campus. Where would I begin to get recs? My grades are already high. So I guess I just need to 'worry' about recs right now! Thanks so much for the support!

Ask the women you know if they have any contacts in the sororities that are on your campus. If they do, they could introduce you.

If that doesn't work, contact your nearest local Alumnae Panhellenic Chapter. www.npcwomen.org gives contact info for some. If there isn't any info listed for the one nearest you, you can email the NPC and ask them. Make sure you introduce yourself and state why you're asking for APH Chapter contact info.

This may not matter to you, but...

I already know where you go to school based on the information you've given here. If you wish to keep your identity confidential, you may want to consider editing your most recent post. (Since you're rushing for the 2nd time and have posted a specific GPA, a sorority woman at your campus could easily figure out exactly which PNM you are just based on what you've posted here.)

Its not necessarily a bad thing that people would know who you are, but then you'd have to be careful with anything you post here. If you want to ask specific questions and/or post detailed observations throughout rush, it might be wise to keep your identity secret, so that you don't get penalized based on any comments here that a someone might misinterpret.

recs

I just emailed a few women I am close with (who are in sororities) to see if they know of any alumnae willing to do recs for me ; )

Hahhahaha on another note I just finished the book 'Pledge,' what a piece-o-poo! I laughed the entire time I read the book! Why would a publisher waste trees by printing this book????? I liked how at the beginning of the book, the author kept on saying that she picked a normal sorority with average girls and she would be unbias coming into writing the book...HAHAHAHAHA
