Acceptable/Negotiable/Non acceptable
I was posting in a S. recruitment thread about extending bids to some girls who have questionable reputations in some areas (drinking, boys), but who might otherwise make "great leaders", sisters, yada yada.
I suggested making a list each of what is Acceptable, Negotiable, and Non-acceptable. I listed two examples:
Acceptable - occasional drinker
Negotiable - the girl who got drunk in the quad and passed out, because she didn't know the koolaid was spiked
Not acceptable - arrest and charge for DUI
Acceptable - flirty, fun girl wearing cute short skirt
Negotiable - girl who is friendly with a lot of guys and sat on the lap of dude who isn't her bf but he happens to be her best friends from home since grade school
Not acceptable - girl sexting her own pics to fraternity guys
I thought that it might be fun to list different situations where you would have to evaluate people for inclusion into anything from a fraternity/sorority, to an academic club, a country club, to a company athletic team, and to a particular job. The more specific the criteria, the funnier.

I saw your original post in the recruitment thread. What a funny idea! I'll be back later when I'm not fried.

DATING:
Acceptable: Guy who has his own place (with/without roommates)
Negotiable: Guy who lives with his parents in order to save/save up money
Unacceptable: Guy who lives with his parents because, like, they'll make all his meals and do his laundry and stuff, dude. Why would anyone EVER move out?!

ROOMMATES:
Acceptable: Roommates who aren't neat freaks, but help keep the place tidy.
Negotiable: Roommate who isn't a neat person and refuses to help clean but instead buys the dorm suit paper goods and cleaning supplies.
Unacceptable: Roommate who isn't a neat person and refuses to clean up her dishes so they sit in the sink for 3 weeks over Christmas break and end up infested with maggots.
True story.

Do you realize that your "negotiable" and "unacceptable" are the same thing in the long run? lol

I fixed it a little.
It worked the first half of the year b/c she bought dorm supplies. When Christmas break approached we all agreed we would clean up the place so it was nice and clean when we got home and ready to start the new year. She didn't hold up her end of the agreement which was unacceptable. What happened next is a story for another time.

Employment
Acceptable: Boss occasionally asking you to work a double
Negotiable: Being scheduled to work multiple doubles in a week, despite also going to school.
Unacceptable: Boss who expects you to work past the legal time you're allowed to under child labor laws, on a weekday before a major exam, and tells you to do so off-clock so the place doesn't get in trouble.
Story of my first job in high school.

Wow, seriously? Sitting on a male best friend's lap is just NEGOTIABLE. Talk about uptight.

Getting past the resume submission point for a job:
Acceptable: e-mailing a tailored resume & coverletter with name or title in the subject line; following up once via phone (uless told to call back)
Negotiable: e-mailing a generic "to whom it may concern" resume and coverletter; forgetting a subject to the e-mail; calling back weekly for follow up
Not acceptable: miss-spelling one's own name in the subject line or the name of the resume & coverletter document; sending an email without a resume & coverletter attached that reads "r u hiring?"; calling every day for information

Maybe my department received far more resumes, however, this was instant recycle bin for us.

it's negotiable if it is an entry level position - we use several university jobs boards for our entry level positions (we're a tech firm so even entry level requires a degree) and we tend to get lots of resumes that look/feel the same from those- I guess most of the students have the same instructor for the resume writing seminar. It can also be negotiable if it is a referral from an existing employee. Then again, we only have 40 employees and I am the entire HR department, so sometimes it depends on my mood...
