Hi ya'll!
I am a member of tri-delta and transferring in the fall to a different university which doesn't have tri-delt I never thought i would say this but is it allowed to pledge to another sorority? I would ask the executive board (but I don't want rumors to start going) or should i ask the national office? well if anyone can help that would be great! thanks

No, you are not allowed to pledge another NPC sorority.

You are allowed to pledge a service or professional sorority. As for whether you would be allowed to pledge a local sorority (that is, a sorority that only has one chapter on one particular campus) that depends on your national bylaws.

Are you an initiated member, or did you pledge but not join formally? Because normally once you join a GLO you are a member for life, unless you can formally dissassociate from the orginization, but if you did that, then what were your reasons for joining in the first place. I know that my chapter would hesitate to take a person who had already been initiated into another fraternity. It just is not a very acceptable thing in the eyes of most GLO's

This is why I love the NPC unanimous agreement that clearly states that an initiated member of NPC sorority CANNOT join another NPC sorority.

thanks for the quick replies! Sorry if it was a obvious question i knew you couldn't pledge to another pan sorority on the same campus but since it was a different school i had some hope... but anyways how would they know i used to be apart of another sorority?

i guess college life isn;t going to be the same for me anymore.

Maybe they wouldn't, but if you were found out you would more than likely be terminated from the second sorority you joined immediately. I know my sorority has this rule in place nationally.

And even if you weren't found out - would you really feel good about doing that?

Ugh, the "how would they know?" question.

If someone really wanted to find out if you were previously initiated, I'm sure they could. People can find out anything these days. But no, NPC doesn't keep a database -- so technically you could, if you really wanted to.

Still, could you really have a clear conscience knowing that, if you did initiate into another NPC, you'd be going against the rules? Could you imagine what would happen if you were actually outed? FaceBook and MySpace make it so easy.

College is 4-5 years. Your Tri Delta sisterhood is for life. Which is more important?

I transfered schools. My current school, while there is a chapter of SDT up here, the chapter is nothing like the chapter that I pledged and went through initiation at. I had several, non Greek friends of mine tell me to rush and just pledge somewhere else. I looked at them like they were crazy.

First off, I would be found out easily, because I know way to well how things work for an average PNM.

And second off, and the most important, I couldn't imagine wearing any other letters then SDT. When I was initiated I made a vow of sisterhood to SDT...and to just wear another set of letters? Never. What I had with SDT was way more important to me.

Now I wear my letters all the time still (I have a set on right now), I keep in touch with my sisters back home (we no longer have a chapter but that is a different story) and I'm looking to bring a service sorority to my new school.

What's more important to you, having that Greek life @ school or Tri Delt and what you vowed when you got in? Only you can decide, but to me, it was where I felt at home, no matter if I lost that when I transfered.

oh good lord.

: plays violin at this pathetic unoriginal sob story :

its one thing to transfer schools, but if youre transferring AND wanting to change chapters... im thinking you had issues with Tri Delta from the beginning and want to de-affiliate.

unless you really ARENT transferring and hiding behind a "hypothetical" situation...

of course this conversation has been had before...

Contact the local Tri-Delta alumnae association for the area you'll be living in & get involved that way!

Don't throw out a lifetime of sisterhood over a stupid mistake like trying to trick another NPC GLO to initiate you.

Well the reason that I am transferring is because i changed my major (to something my current uni doesn't have) and the university that i'm going to does have it and is well known for it... i don't really want to trick another sorority but i just thought they would understand my situation and that it is not my fault this university doesn't have tri-delt... i know i will still keep in touch with my sisters especially my big but i am moving to a different state so it might be difficult (but thats what facebook is for! haha) Thanks for all the replies and glad I didn't go through the embrassment of asking our president because she probably would have been pissed.
thanks again
