I'm having it with my mom's family. We usually have thanksgiving with them and sometimes an after christmas dinner. Mikki, that sounds like a good list. One of my aunts by the way is a DZ.

I'm not having thanksgiving with my family this year--we do thanksgiving with his family then christmas with mine. But my mom makes this AWESOME oyster dressing and cabbage dressing. yummy in my tummy!!! And I'm a sucker for mashed potatos!! I could eat a whole serving bowl--mmmmmmmmmmm.

Mikki, I love mashed potatoes too, but I hate anything with oysters. Except on the half shell. Stuffing with gravy is yummy to me.....and cherry pie....mmmm.

don't forget PUMPKIN pie!!!! Traditional thanksgiving dessert! Oh, now I'm longing for my mother's home cookin'!!!!! I'm going to make cabbage stuffing for thanksgiving at bryan's parents house--just so I'll have a little something to remind me of home---<sigh>

I love thanksgiving. Probably my favorite holiday because it is the one time we stop celebrating what we want, and celebrate what we have. People putting family first in their lives again.

I love the southern treat...Deep fried Turkey. Had my first one about 10 years ago and it is the best, juciest turkey I have ever had. Shrimp stuffing, to die for. did the cajun thanksgiving last year in New Orleans and my friends mom made all these deep stabs into the raw bird with a long knife. She then stuck a piece of garlic into each hole, and then put a jalipeno in the hole after the garlic. when it was cooked...unbelieveable. With the big 'ole ass glass of sweet tea, greens, and topped off with mincemeat pie. TOO much. Falling asleep after eating and watching all the football games. Fighting your sister and brother for the white meat. Having the turkey sandwich smothered in mayonase at 11PM, knowing you shouldn't, but it's thanksgiving, so you can get away with it. Waking up the next day knowing the weekend has only just begun and you have tons of free time to relax and hang with your family. Absolutely my favorite hoiliday.

Hey everyone! Lifesaver, my mom is from Louisiana (Ruston) so we have a southern dinner w/ the northern influence. We have the turkey (yummmy!) but she doesn't deep fry it. We have the honey baked ham (yummier...I LOVE ham!), collard greens, macaroni and cheese (from scratch...sooooo good!), green beans w/ onions and a lil bacon mixed in, candied yams (my FAV!), and dressing (or stuffing for those that say "stuffing"). Sometimes, she'll fry some okra, but it's not a regular item. Then we'll have potato salad or some kind of salad...it changes year to year. Then my mom will usually buy a cheesecake and MAKE a sweet potato pie!!!! Mmm-mmm good! If you've never had sweet potato pie...ya don't know what you're missing!!! My mom is also a caterer, so you all KNOW that dinner at my house is the GREATEST!!! I can't wait! Wow, now that I'm talking about all this food, I just might have to leave school a little earlier

Well, I'm from West Virginia, the most northern of the southern states and most southern of the northern. We too deep fry turkey here, but not just on Thanksgiving, we had one on the 4th of July too. My mom usually oven bakes hers though for Thanksgiving because it's so cold out, nobody wants to stand outside with the deep fryer! Green beans--staple food item in my family's home (my mom cans them every year), candied yams, mashed potatos and gravy, deviled eggs and olives, beets, oyster dressing, cabbage stuffing--but it's in the turkey, cole slaw, wheat rolls, Salad, pumpkin pies--mmmmm. My aunt always makes pinapple suffle (sp?) because she's allergic to potatos. Iced Tea is also a staple item in my home AND my mother's home--even in the winter--although I prefer sun tea made in the summer. But with dinner, we always have wine. That's what my mom fixes--now I wish I were going there for Thanksgiving--she's the best cook!!! Bryan's mom, she never fixes anything with flavor, she doesn't even put salt in anything while she cooks. We're going to their house for Thanksgiving.

One of the best things about Thanksgiving dinner : sweet potatoes. We boil them first then cut them long, put them in a baking dish with loads of butter and brown sugar and then bake. MMMMmmmm I can't wait. My moms used to bake at least 3 different pies: pumpkin, shoofly, and pecan. We also would have this yummy cranberry jello salad.

Don't forget the fruit in a cloud. The dish I bring anytime its pot-luck. Cool-Whip and Fruit salad. But you always gotta have the jack-a** who makes it with almonds or something. -Aint supposta be nuthing crunchy in fruit in a cloud.
