question

I was wondering how to get an already existing, local sorority to be nationally recognized. Any information you can give me would be great!

i know that there have been other questions about it but none answer my question. my school requires that local sororities be national in order to be recognized by greek life on campus. we are trying to find out how to go about doing that so that we can be involved with greek life. we used to be recognized before the new rule but now because of technical issues we fall under the new guidelines saying we have to be national. please help us figure this out!

You'll need to follow the expansion process outlined in the link posted above. Good luck!

What the people above are trying to tell you is that the only way to become "nationally recognized" in the context your school is using is to become members of one of the NPC or national service GLOs.

There was a question just like this before. I bet you even want to be nationally recognized without joining a national organization. You want to remain local but still be recognized by the school?

Sometimes you won't find the answers you need on GreekChat or any website for that matter. They can, however, point you in the right direction.

There's a process your sorority needs to follow if you ladies want to affiliate with a(n) inter/national organization. The link I posted above will take you to the NPC website if it's an NPC organization you're interested in. If it's a service organization, I'd contact their HQ.

An alternative: you could affiliate with Beta Sigma Phi. BSP is an internationally recognized sorority, and we're always looking for new chapters. PM me if you're interested and I can help you with a friendly venture! (BSP speak for "starting a new chapter")

There are several collegiate chapters of BSP looming around, even though we're not a collegiate sorority per se. I know that our chapter at UM-Kansas City has a house and everything!

For more information: http://www.betasigmaphi.org

Hope this helps!

Good luck!

NPC sororities are not your only option. Kappa Beta Gamma is a smaller national social sorority that is also willing to work with you. Feel free to check out our website and PM me with any questions!

If you're interested in affiliating with groups other than the 26 NPC sororities (not that that those are not good choices!), I would also suggest looking into Omega Phi Alpha National Service Sorority (www.omegaphialpha.org) This would be different from most of your options because as a service sorority, OPhiA is primarily a service organization, secondarily a social organization. We feel that this makes us stronger

We recently absorbed a local sorority in a situation similar to your own, so these kinds of transitions are something that we are familiar with and treat with respect. If this is something you would be interested in, I'm sure that our VP of Expansions would love to talk to you.

Other non-NPC options are

Epsilon Sigma Alpha - www.esaintl.com
Sigma Gamma Phi (Arethusa) - www.arethusa.org

Good luck with everything.

There are many national/regional social sororities you could talk to if you want to affiliate with a social sorority, thus become national on campus and stay women-only. See the following thread on non-NPC social sororities:
http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ad.php?t=72960

If you have a time and the university allows it, the other possibility is to set your sorority up to become a regional/national sorority and expand to other universities. This would take a lot of commitment from your alumnae to help set up a national board, incorporate the organization, obtain insurance, etc.
