The VT Shooting

Has anyone heard from our chapter there yet?

Unhappy

I was going to ask if we have an active chapter at Virginia Tech. I guess we do. I still remember Columbine and the Luby's shooting in Killeen, TX. I can't believe that it happened again, and this time worse than ever.

Let's just pray for those who have survived the tragedy and also keep our brothers at VT in mind in this time. Let's also keep those who were killed in mind and pray for their families. I can't imagine the horror it would be to receive a phone call that one of my two sons had been killed.

God bless Lambda Chi Alpha.

There is some good news. According to an email I just received from a staff member at IHQ, "all of our Brothers from Virginia Tech are accounted for and are unharmed."

VT Chapter alumni website

Sent an email at the contact link at what appears to be the alumni website for Sigma Lambda Zeta at VT:

http://www.webby-noblin.org/

Haven't seen anything posted on national website in regards to potential victims at VT also being brothers, but I would assume that we may not know for another day or so, even as the list of victims is released. However, keep praying that no one in our brotherhood was a victim.

However, (editing now) - thanks Jono for the update - glad to know they are all OK.

Ironic that Northern Colorado will have ritual this Friday. Last year's spring ritual was also affected by the death of an alumni announced just at the start of initiation. Praying to not have to deal with that again, but, as brothers we will mourn if needed, but move forward, perhaps with renewed enthusiasm, for the initiation ritual, and it may have more profound meaning than ever....

I suspect that the guys at VT are kinda busy right now . . .

One thing that we might discuss and / or add to the risk management book is a brief instruction on what to do for a campus event where we are unharmed but media attention will result.

There was a shooting at a fraternity house next to ours at Fullerton a couple of years ago. Nobody with LXA was involved or hurt. I directed that we implement the response plan and that Indy be notified that (1) There was a shooting, (2) We are OK, (3) We were not involved, and (4) Press contact was to be done in accordance with the plan. I thought that this was the best course of action and Indy agreed.

What I did wasn't exactly "in" the plan and a specific instruction to do this might be in order. VT may well have done just this but we may never know. A predictable response might be a good thing to work on.

BTW, the house next to ours had NO CLUE what a response plan was. I shared ours.

Thank you for the report. I tried to access the LXA Site and there was none.

Thank goodness all Brothers are safe and I wonder what went wrong there.

We may never actually know! The mind of an individual is not known for a certanty for sure.

What a shame for something like this to have happened.
