This is too much. He was so young. I wonder what happened?

Prayers to the Nash and Broncos family. I can't believe they have to go through this again.

Sounds like his brother died of a heart problem. Maybe it's hereditary...?

I put the first name in the title of the thread. I am sure I am not the only one that thought Steve Nash because he is a basketball player, when I read that.

What a horrible event. My prayers to the Nash family.

That was my first thought as well - something like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy that (I believe) can run in families.

I used to deal with some heart transplant patients in my first job out of college, and it was amazing the amount of family members who had been tranplanted or were on the list.

Either way, a terrible situation, my heart goes out to his family, friends and teammates.

DENVER (AP) -- Broncos running back Damien Nash collapsed and died after a charity basketball game in suburban St. Louis on Saturday, less than two months after the slaying of teammate Darrent Williams.

"
Nash collapsed shortly after participating in the game benefiting a foundation named for older brother Darris Nash. The foundation raises money for heart transplant research. It was established last month, after Darris Nash received a heart transplant.

Duly noted......my purpose was to point out that Mr. Nash's brother did not die, he is a heart transplant recipient. It has been edited. Here's a update for you.

Now this is one thing that I actually do my research on. I have been working in this field close to 3-4 years.

It could have been an aneurysm in the carotids. To fall out a die after exertion, even with cardiac arrest, he could have a small percentage of living if AED'ed.

But, he probably had no way of revival if he had an aneurysm that blew out and oxygen loss to the brain...

That is pure speculation.

And I have seen human big baggy hearts on echo. That's just not cool. Ath I can handle, but a left ventricular hypertrophy with a jacked up ejection fraction is not cool.

Yeah, that would explain the sudden death. I don't know much about the field (liberal arts person), but that makes sense.

The genetic part of it is scary - to see families coming on the transplant list, etc., I just don't know how I'd handle that. It was tough enough for me dealing with a heart-conduction based disorder (WPW), one that was significantly easier to treat through meds and ablation.

Working in the field you probably know of a couple of the people at the hospital where I worked who are doing a lot of research in the field of HCM and genetics. PM me if you want to talk a little about it, I prefer not to say their names on here, for fear some whacko will try to trace my location, etc.
