Talking Locals looking to go National

I was wondering if there are any locals that are looking to go National. If so what are your goals and the underlining mission statement of your sorority or fraternity? Many people have said that a National "found" them and that is how they decided to join that National. My experience has been the opposite - that the groups find the National they want to join. If there are any locals out there that want to be 'found', this is your chance to speak up and let everyone know who and where you are.

hi, i'm a member of a local that is also looking to go national. in two weeks three sororities are coming to our campus to check us out. this is how it happened:

we have 4 national sororities, and 1 (unfortunately, chi omega) got kicked off or their charter removed due to hazing issues...

our npc advisor (we are associate members of npc) sent out invitations to ALL the NPC sororities inviting them on campus. our npc advisor knew we might be interested in going national so she has spoken to all those nationals who responded to the invite and told them about us

i'm not sure how they selected the three sororities they did, but sigma sigma sigma, alpha xi delta, and another sorority can't remember their name, were chosen to come on campus and meet with us...

they will be here in a couple of weeks to meet with us, and we are all thrilled.

i do know that you cannot just contact a national sorority and they will come on campus...your npc chapter must vote on bringing a new national on...meaning their must be a "need" for a new national, then they send out invitations...i don't think it would hurt to contact any nationals your organization might be interested in, however, because if a national sees that a local is interested, they might petition your npc chapter and check you guys out if npc allows them to come....in any case, i feel your first step is to become associate members your npc chapter

I think the proper method for NPC is through the Panhellenic Council. We have to get permission to expand, it isn't up to the group it is up to the school's NPC system, they may not be able to expand and still maintain quota/total or any type of equality if the system is saturated.

As much as our greek advisor on campus supports nationals and panhel, I think that our local sorority, Chi Delta Pi, is going to stay local. We are appealing to a lot more people considering we do not have as high of dues or have to follow as many rules and regulations (b/c we are not part of panhel). Even though we take ourselves very seriously, we are in general more laid back than most I think, and also we are very unique in the sense that we got to choose how things will work on our own- not according to anyone else's rules or traditions. The biggest reason we do not want to go national is because we feel that we'd lose everything we started when we "transform" into the new ntl. sorority. I'm sure it's not quite that bad, but over all we are happy to be local

Nothing says you cannot contact as many Nationals as you want! When I started my local, I was the only one and sent letters out to many big Nationals! I had more turn downs than you canimagine, ALL!!
Said heck with it and went about as a local as my major thing was to get us on campus when I got members. A small national was trying to come on at the same time. The school would allow only one to come an. We lasted and contacted LXA and next thing I new, Theta Chi contacted us. We had two meetings in two weeks, one with each. We decided to go with LXA, I have never looked back and am still envolved to this day 36 years later!

Question

I am a member of a local chapter of Delta Tau Sigma at Lawrence Tech. and we are thinking about going National. Our big thing is that we do not want to upset any of our alumni, and taking another org.'s name may do that. We also want to keep our traditions and ideas. Because of this, and other things, we would like to start a National Delta Tau Sigma but do not know what to do first. If anyone knows where we should start or who to talk to let me know.
Thank You.

Just take care. I was a member of a local that went national - and we lost a lot of what we were as a local. My national org has some beautiful rituals - but at the same time, I miss my local sorority's rituals.

If you're in a local that chooses to go national, I urge you to find some way to incorporate your local's rituals and traditions, so that they do not die. Your local has a history - celebrate it.

Question

Hi! I am a member of a local chapter of Kappa Tau Epsilon @ the University of Chalreston in WV. Within my time as a sister I have heard many of the older sisters express intrest in finding other KTE's and trying to go National. I found a chapter in Frostburg who just ended their charter w/ a nation that they joined about 6 years ago, because they just want to be KTE. I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a way to somehow form a new national organization under our name and not get absorbed into an already established sorority.
Also...just out of curiousity if anyone knows of campuses w/ KTE chapters (sisters to TKE) could you tell me where they are?
I would greatly appreciate any help that you guys can offer. Thanks!
