Record Number Registered for NPC Recruitment (Northwestern)

The Daily Northwestern for Jan. 12, 2007 reports on the number registered for recruitment; the article also mentions that quota is expected to be around 39:

Gotta love the last sentence...

"They then rank their final three choices, and the sororities in turn list women they want to join. A computer system matches women to houses and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life makes sure pledge classes are about equal."

Yeah, the greek advisor has a say in that! Uh, duh, it's called quota/total!

General information on Northwestern NPC recruitment results:

* 407 bids extended

* About 170 PNMs withdrew from recruitment

No data on quota or individual chapter results.

ZTA will be recruiting soon for colonization.

By the way, the article seems to report that PNMs open their bids "en masse" at a large gathering. It also says that a few women lingered crying at that mass gathering spot. My guess is that those were women who weren't happy with the bids they got.

That's disappointing IMHO. I expect more from a school like Northwestern. I expect them to do everything possible to keep rush from turning into a festival of humiliation.

"I better get Kappa because I'm seriously getting frostbite out here," one student said.

I had to laugh when I read that. But, seriously? 8 degrees? Why didn't they move those poor girls into a building?

We used to have our Rho Chis sit in a room with the bid envelopes for the girls in their rush groups. We'd tell the girls what time to come get their bids, and the rho chis would hand them out. Some girls were practically peeing their pants they were so excited to open the envelopes as soon as they were in their hand, while other girls were so nervous that they'd go into the bathroom so they could open the bid in privacy. That's a much more sensitive way to do it, I think.

Our evil Rho Chi's (coughadpiucfcough ) had us come to the front of the room and get our envelope. We then opened our envelope in front of our whole Rho Chi group. I remember thinking to myself, "Please let me get ZTA because I don't want to cry in front of all these people."

I think that's terrible! I can't believe the school allows that...do they not think of the girls' feelings? Some may be perfectly fine with getting their second or third choice, but many are just a little sad when it happens.

Not that any school is without "tiers", but NU is less competitive than other recruitments, so I don't think there are as many broken hears as, say, UGa.
