This probably is in bad taste, but it's really funny.

Would he be the last of the Warren Commission members to pass away?

Grave news indeed.

The only unelected President in US History (he replaced Spiro Agnew as VP during Agnew's term, so was never part of an elected ticket as a VP candidate), and yet he laid the foundation for Reagan's future successful negotiations with the Soviet Union, ended the US involvement in the Vietnam War and pardoned former President Nixon to spare the nation further turmoil and debate over that matter. And in his days after retirement, Ford remained silent about the direction of future Presidents in an era where at least one ex-President failed to be similarly respectful and discreet.

Ford's legacy may well continue to be overlooked, but the reality is that in a very short and critical time in America's history he provided just the sort of quiet leadership that was needed.

Many will never appreciate him for that, but I expect the appreciation and admiration of a star-struck public was not something he cared much about- and America is all the better for it.

Rest in Peace Mr. President.

Whether of bad taste or the fact that Gerald Ford could take a bit of humor pointed to him by the "fickle finger of fate" with all his pratfalls and he might have also been on Laugh In ....Nixon was...Valkyrie had the Dana Carvey bit long before Google who has it available only for the last few hours...

President Ford had a difficult job to perform for our country three memorable times: as a member of the Warren Commission who attempted to determine the exact felon and causes of JFK's assassination, he succeeded to the office of President after Nixon's resignation (pardoned him later to much chagrin by some) and was the President in office when the bloodiest war in our history ...Vietnam finally ended.

He was such a good sport I guarantee he is laughing over the Carvey bit.

So, the 21 guns are in honor and tribute to you , Mr. President. With the hopes that the future inhabitant of the Oval Office is as steadfast and staunch a leader as you.

While President Ford seemed to be a clutch, he was an outstanding athlete at UM.

The turmoil that he was thrown into was unbeleiveable.

The Warren Commision is still out to some historians for actual facts.

Pardoning Nixon while not popular, the Country had to move on and did.

The Viet Nam War was not popular and needed to be wrapped up and gotten out of.

While He was a one term non elected President, He will go down for more than what actually was shown.

He did a job that needed to be done and did it!

Smile Gerald, You did good!

Yes, and yes.

When I worked in Detroit, our station televised the opening of the Ford Presidential Library, which I directed. Later, I worked directly with him on a national closed circuit telecast for CARE from here in Denver.

He was a nice man, a real gentleman and very easy to work with.

What I hope he will be most remembered for, despite the Nixon pardon, is healing many of the rifts in our country in the post Watergate era.

Yes, although their staff attorney (Arlen Specter) is still around.
