Who would want to join a house like that? One minute you're a valued sister and the next you're out on you rear...go sisterhood!

Nobody was kicked out of Delta Zeta. Those who were not interested in having a strong chapter and not interested in recruiting new members in order to sustain the chapter were granted alum status. Anyone who understands the bigger picture of sisterhood understands that you don't just take from the sorority as a place to live but you give back in terms of making sure the sorority continues to exist so that others may have the opportunity to join in the future. The responsibility of sisterhood is a two way street. Women who are leaders and who understand the real meaning of sisterhood and the values of sorority life will join over time.

They weren't "granted alum status" - they were forced to either take alum status or be deactivated. But you can think what you want. I guess I don't "understand the real meaning of sisterhood" if that means doing to those girls what Delta and Nationals did.

What they are going through is a very sad and traumatic experience. As our sisters, we owe them empathy and time to be angry, sad, and upset.

It's also unfair to assume that since the chapter closed the women did not work hard. I can only speak for my own chapter that closed in 1999, but we worked our rears off over the last year. COB was basically a part-time job for members, who had to attend 2 events a week. The stress of having a struggling chapter tore friendships and sisterhood apart.

DeltaDZ-Please feel free to PM me if you want to talk. I know that after my experience, it took me several years to truly understand what happened, and be at peace with it. For the longest time I wasn't interested in DZ, nor did I have an interest in being an active alumna. Things have changed, and I am again active in the sorority in 2 alumnae chapters and as an advisor.
