OK, now I know we have probably done this before, but it wasnt on the first couple of pages that I checked so I figured I would start it over again.

What are some songs that you have heard that in some way or another remind you of Lambda Chi Alpha.

This is a song completely about us Chops. It is called "Where the Chops at". Just thought I would share it with everyone.

I have two special songs that I hold near and dear to my heart via Lambda Chi Alpha.

The first is Old Time Rock 'n Roll. This is because we used it in my associate member class' mock ritual...before our Phi told us the objective was supposed to be serious. Let's just say we took the phrase "MOCK ritual" the wrong way...until we cleaned it up and put on one hell of a performance, I must say.

Secondly, a part of Epsilon-Xi Zeta regards The Joker, by the Steve Miller Band with affection. A) It's a good song. B) Spring 2001 was the year of the Jokers. and C) Ep-Xi #1 (our immortalized founder) was Maurice Felton. Get it..."...Space Cowboy...Gangster of Love...Some people call me Maurice...Wfhoo-wfheeooo." We even had an imaginary A.M. (That eventually got blackballed) named Steve Miller. Isn't that pompatous?

Trey, thanks for the mention of Robin Hood. I have to admit it's one of my favorites too.

We used to play these two following initiations:

He Ain't Heavy - usually the Neil Diamond version
MCR

But a little-known John Prine song always makes me think of going back for Founders' Day and seeing the old crew again. It's on The Missing Years, which won the 1991 Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

He goes by the name of DJ Scrilla and I think he is a Sig-Ep, he has done several GLO songs, the only other one I have heard is about Phi Mu, and I cant remember the song that was altered.

For me, it's not about the lyrics or any of that, it's the memories the song evokes.

Paradise by the Dashboard Light by Meatloaf

Every time it comes on the radio, I am magically transported back in time to 1992. I'm standing in the doorway between the kitchen and the living room of 339 E. Burd St. (Our chapter house at the time) with a beer in my hand. There's a foosball death match in progress right inside the back door. All my brothers are singing the "Meatloaf" part of the song at the top of our lungs, while all the sisters of KTE sing the girl's part back to us. We've got old mattresses tied over all the windows to deaden the noise so the neighbors don't call the cops, and I know it's only about five minutes before the kitchen floor will be wet enough for the naked beer slides to start. Good times...

Also, The Weight by The Band

My senior year, I was still learning to play the guitar. Four other brothers and I decided to play "The Weight" for the Greek Week talent show. Between going to class, working and trying to learn that damn song, I hardly slept for a week! But learn it I did, and that song has never sounded as good to me, before or since, as when we played it in front of 800 screaming college students. I was so nervous I had to tap my foot as I played so the audience couldn't see my leg shaking. Still, it's one of the stand-out memories of my college career.

For those who do not know what Brother Jono is refering to with "Robin Hood", it is a CD that He and another Brother from BN did.

It is awesome about his time in College in Fl. Yepper the Boy from Long Island in Florida!

He gracefully gave me one in our many encountrs and I play if often on my way for LXA events at My Alma Mater on home Zeta.

While I am not promoting his sale of it, it is a nice thing to have!

That sounds very noble, Tom, but you certainly did promote your own sale of my CD. I "gracefully" gave you three copies - two of which you sold to a brother who was going to buy them from me.

I never planned on recouping the ten thousand dollars it cost me to produce the album, but I was looking forward to the satisfaction of actually selling a couple of them. You took that away from me.

I cannot fathom why you chose to drag up something I've tried very hard to forget (and in such a snide way), but I will try again to put it behind me because it was a very painful incident.

It's a good album. The CD contains two versions of the song Robin Hood, which was written about one of our ceremonies. Copies are available directly from me for $10 including S/H.

This one is a personal one, or maybe one for my AM group:

YOU GIVE LOVE A BAD NAME - Bon Jovi

I was an AM when this came out and was popular (gee I'm OLD!). My AM
class made up a few new words for it, and used it in our "serenades" of
girls' dorms, especially Crescent Girls (LXA little sisters). Makes me think of
my AM days every time I hear it.

Chorus:
Shot to the heart, and you're to blame
You give LAMBS a bad name ("lambs" is our nickname at GC)
I PLEDGED LAMBDA CHI, and you play your games ("associated" just didn't fit)
You give LAMBS a bad name......

The rest was the same I think. We may have made up another "verse",
but the chorus is repeated so much its what I remember.

A few of the Crescents didn't like that "you give Lambs a bad name" part...
but oh well! It was all in fun.

DUST IN THE WIND and FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE (along with WAYWARD SON)
from Kansas.

For some reason "GIVE IT AWAY, GIVE IT AWAY, GIVE IT AWAY NOW"
(don't know who sings it...some early-90's hip hop group) was almost as
popular (don't know why ) as MCR at Vandy during the colony days.
I rarely hear that one on the radio, but when I do, it makes me remember!

I currently am the promoter for DJ $crilla, the guy who raps for the greeks. If you didn't already know we did a Lambda Chi Alpha "Where the Chops At" song last spring and also put together a Lambda Chi ringtone.

If you are interested in hosting a DJ $crilla concert or want to do a song for your specific chapter, just let me know. We did one at Oklahoma State (Alpha Eta Zeta) last fall and raised money for the OSU wheelchair basketball team.

To get the ringtone and/or song just get in touch with me on facebook and I will send it to you via email.

One more thing, if you choose to do a concert with us, we will throw in a song at no charge. So you get a chapter song or if you wanted to do another national song, we could do that too, and it wouldn't cost you anything. And of course you would get ringtones too for free.
