Engagement Gift?
Cocktail party soon for a co-workers engagement. Held at her soon to be husband's aunt & uncle's apt. Wedding is in the summer in Vermont so I think this may be a way for us NYC friends to celebrate the wedding since we won't be there this summer.
They are the most laid back truly from Vermont people I know...
Any gift ideas?

Membership in a beer-of-the month club? I have no idea...but that's what I'd want, LOL.

see i totally thought of something like that, if i could find it for not lot of $$$, but they are moving & i don't want to create too much extra hassle when they need to change their address!!

A good bottle of wine would be a nice gift. I mean, I'd be with valkyrie on the Beer of the Month club thing (maybe some Long Trail Ale, made in Vermont), but I think more people would be more into the wine.

I agree on the bottle of wine! Very appropriate for the occasion and the relationship (co-worker).

** bump **
A friend of mine from college just got engaged on Christmas Eve, we live pretty far apart so I wont be able to take her out anytime soon to celebrate but I wanted to get her a little something to congratulate them. Along with a card, I was thinking a copy of Modern Bride or some other bridal magazine but does anyone have any other suggestions? I'd like to send a bottle of champagne but reading the post in Chit Chat about what happened with that bottle of scotch and how you cant ship alcohol across state borders I'm not sure thats the best idea.
ETA: I wanted to send them something that they both could appreciate. Bridal magazine would be more a gift to her...thoughts?

A bottle of wine, toasting flutes, a cake cutting set, scented candles, or a nice picture frame would be great gifts.

My best friend just got engaged this past Saturday. As en enagement/Christmas present I got them 4 crystal champagne flutes.
Right now boxing day sales (I know the US doesn't have Boxing Day, but I'm sure there are after Christmas Sales) are going on, and if you're on a tight budget you'll be able to find some beautiful gifts at great prices.
