Silence Week

Is it just me, or does mandatory silence for recruitment make you feel like Harpo Marx with a broken horn?

*points at nametag*
*makes a zipper-like gesture over mouth*
*makes exaggerated frown*
*waves bye and walks away*

What do you mean silence week? We didn't have anything like that.

Technically it's recruitment week, but it's still that week with the "silence period" between PNMs and sorority members (and boys, and girls who aren't rushing)?

I think I'm too tired to remember the right terms!

I don't remember there being a "silence week" either, and I just graduated in 2005. We were always told we could talk to pnms on campus, we just couldn't discuss recruitment or anything. Can someone explain?

It's basically recruitment week, but a handful of us here call it "silence week" because we can't talk to non-sorority members, boys, and girls who are rushing--not even about non-rush things. It's a little different here, I guess!

I always hated that week or month (our recruitment changed to after Labor Day when I was a junior), especially when my one room mate was a recruitment counselor.

I remember when I went through we could still talk to PNM about non-recruitment (like in classes), but our chapter frowned upon it because if another sorority member saw it they didn't always know WHAT you were talking about and that didn't look good. So in my chapters eyes it was always better to be safe then sorry!!
