Do you wear tikis?

Just wondering, which organizations wear tikis? Is this a predominately NPHC/Multicultural greek thing?

I'm going to guess since I don't know what a tiki is (in this sense) that it's either regional or NPHC/MCGLO.

I've seen pictures of some NPC sororities, but overall, yes it is predominantly an NPHC/MGLO thing.

So it's like a lavalier except more like beads or plastic on leather cords?

Haven't seen it in the Greek stores... and on SLU's campus the most you saw of the NPHC were jackets and a few flyers.. but never saw tikis.

But I did go shopping in Champaign and did not see these there.

If they're cheaper than lavaliers and other necklaces, I'd see them as a great thing to wear in the summer.

they cost about $16 each and you generally wear them when its too hot to wear a jacket or throw on a tshirt with letters.

I've seen them worn at clubs mostly.

they're a lot bigger than lavalieres so they're a lot more conspicuous

I wouldn't think most people would wear letters at clubs with the alcohol thing. I don't know other orgs rule on that though.

I'd definately wear it with a tank and shorts.. more beachy attire (even if a beach weren't in sight). I have other SK necklaces (including a flipflop!) though that would be more appropriate for going out.

And no letters w/ alcohol of course.

People wore them at U of I (along w/dog tags), but I'm not sure that they were sold in all of the campus stores.

Most times, you'll find that you have to order teekees (tikis) from a greek-wear website. I don't think I've EVER seen them in a store, and all the one's I've ever bought have come from one website or another. In regard to them being like lavaliers, yes and no... they're generally about 3-4 inches tall. I don't wear it to the club unless it's letters to get in discounted, but it comes off the minute I walk in the door - no letters & alcohol.

To answer the original question, though, I've seen them primarily for NPHC and cultural/multicultural greek orgs.
