Hi. I've been in Online Kappa for over 3 years, and it has been a very good experience. I've learned so much about the sorority and how other chapters operate.
Every online chapter is different. Some operate just like land chapters with officers, monthly meetings, socials, programs, and even service projects. Chapters who operate like land chapters have the option to be recognized by International (meaning that members can work toward progression). I believe that all but Online Alpha took that option.
Some chapters are large. Some are small. You just choose the environment that you prefer. I can only speak to how OLK operates. We are a very small chapter. We pay $35 per year in dues. The money is used for our charitable contributions, officer gifts and awards, yearbooks, greeting cards, and other expenditures of operation. We hold a business meeting once per month (by e-mail). Each ends with a program and social. Throughout the month, we have Chapter Chatter, my favorite part! We just e-mail each other about our lives. It's fun, and I've grown to feel very close to my OLK sisters. We also do Special Sisters (instead of Secret Sisters since it is hard to be secret online).
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Erica
