RW/RR Challenge: The Duel
Yes folks, MTV's newest RW/RR challenge premiered last night. Did anyone catch it? You know you all just LOVED Fresh Meat!
At least we can breathe a sigh of relief for this challenge -- no Coral, Mark, or Veronica!
Beth Stolarczyk : Real World 2: Los Angeles
Chris "CT" Tamburello: Real World 13: Paris
Aneesa Ferreira: Real World 11: Chicago
Brad Fiorenza: Real World 14: San Diego
Robin Hibbard: Real World 14: San Diego
Nehemiah Clark: Real World 16: Austin
Tina Barta: Road Rules 12: South Pacific
Wes Bergmann: Real World 16: Austin
Kina Dean: Road Rules 13: Xtreme
Derrick Kosinski: Road Rules 13: Xtreme
Jodi Weatherton: Road Rules 13: Xtreme
Tyler Duckworth: Real World 17: Key West
Paula Meronek: Real World 17: Key West
John Devenanzio: Real World 17: Key West
Svetlana Shusterman: Real World 17: Key West
Kenny Santucci: Fresh Meat
Diem Brown: Fresh Meat
Evan Starkman: Fresh Meat
Casey Cool: Fresh Meat
Eric Banks: Fresh Meat
I must say that Diem's amazing. She just finished her last round of chemo for her ovarian cancer and is up and competing already. Anyway, since it just premiered last night, I won't give away what she did in this episode. Totally cool.
And it's no surprise that Tina gets sent home. Why? She lays the smackdown with Beth. Getting kicked off the Duel is soooo worth it if it means Beth getting her ass beat.
Fresh Meat 2 is now casting, which means RR has been passed up once again. The next challenge starts filming soon...this time it's in Cape Town , South Africa.

1. I was thinking the same about Diem. What an inspiration she is to those out there. And I teared up when all the girls put swim caps on. Women need to stick together in times like that.
2. Saw the preview. CAN'T WAIT to see it!

I loved it! I have a feeling that they aren't sending Tina home though. I think it'll end up that it'll be similar to the Puck/David thing where Beth will demand that Tina stays because she wants to beat her in the Duel and then Tina will totally win and Buh Bye Beth!

In an ideal setting, maybe.
But we all know Beth is not gracious and noble. If Beth did demand that the producers let Tina stay, she's shooting herself in the ass because she knows she's at risk for getting yet another beat-down.
Tina's got the boot.
Also, does anyone watch the AfterShow on OverDrive? That isht's funny...especially Tina's from last night. She's a royal bitch but I love it how she tells it like it is and despite being brutally honest she still manages to get the support of many.

I really like Diem. She is a really strong and brave woman to compete right after chemo.
Tina and Beth?? I've been waiting for something like this to happen since her RW season. BTW, does anyone know Tina's background in terms of ethnicity. I've always been curious.

I think she's half white and half Thai.

Wikipedia says she's of Chinese and Vietnamese descent, which is odd because you almost always never hear of that Asian combo. Either way, she's hapa.

How did I not even know about this show??? Oh well, it's not like they won't re-run it 4894646 times.

I loved how Tyler was bragging at the start of the show that it'll pay off to be the gay boy that knows all the words to Madonna songs because the girls will want to keep him around longer. I was sitting on my couch ! Has the man ever watched a challenge???? I was not surprised in the least when he was the last man standing.

My heart went out to Diem. I almost cried and I admire her bravery. She actually looked cute with the short hair, not like that is complete redemption, but whatever helps to make her not feel self-concious.
Beth is too old and she needs to do something else with her time. I had forgotten that she was from the 2nd season of RW. That's back when RW was genuinely good, I know the 1st season is when all the housemates actually had separate jobs instead of being forced to live and work together. Over the past years it's become more and more orchestrated and predictable.
Oh yeah...Tina is an idiot. Beth got what she wanted, even if she had a black eye from it.

I don't think she's back. I believe she retired right before Coral retired.

At the last Challenge reunion, Coral basically said that she (and, I guess, some others) have stopped bumping heads with Tina because it's been accepted that she's a hoe and a bitch (with no remorse). Once you accept someone as a hoe and a bitch there's not too much to squabble over.

I didn't know Coral retired, but it'd make sense if she did...the last challenge had her banged up really bad.
I was reading Wikipedia last night and it's interesting what kind of trivia you can find out. Apparently Mike the Miz, Mark from RR #1, and Eric Nies (RW #1) have all officially "retired" from the challenges. If you recall from the Gauntlet II, Mark gave his bandanna to Derrick saying, "From the first Road Ruler to the last Road Ruler, I give you my bandanna."

She announced that she was going to let it go, let the newer people take the spotlight, and get a real job.
That's cool that these old heads are making way for the new crew. They've made their "celebrity" and money from it. RW veteran college lecture tours were really big in the early-to-mid 90's.
