A serious Mac question

I am a new Macintosh user. Could someone please tell me why is my computer making random noises? While I have typed this message, I have heard a whaaap and a pop. I have heard whoooshand other sound effects that I cant identify. I would think that the noises are associated with email notification. But that is definately not it. Is my computer trying to communicate with me?

This made me laugh. I've never been mooed at by a computer.

I think its under options. I had to do it to get that voice that reads what you're typing. It always mispronounced my name.

Although I didnt make any changes, the computer was completely silent today. Macs are weird.

I bet it has a virus.

I don't know specifics (SOooo not a Mac expert) but I used them for an English class a few years ago. It would make a sound when I scrolled to the bottom of a page, or minimized/maximized, etc.

I'm sure there's a setting to turn it off.

Sorry I can't be more help, but at least your computer probably isn't trying to kill you or anything... don't watch the movie Pulse though

It's probably something in your system preferences>sound area.

Mute the computer. If you continue to hear noises after that, then you probably want to take it in before it explodes or something. It definitely shouldn't make sounds when you aren't doing anything - my Mac makes noises when I open and close things, and stuff like that, and the CD/DVD player is really loud internally whenever I'm using it, but the noises you're describing sound kind of weird.
