AOTT and ADPi
I went to a school that only had one of these similiarly named sororities (ADPi!), but I was wondering if the similar names ever cause PNMs to mistakenly put one sorority before the other during recruitment? Anyone ever heard of this? What do the campuses with ADPi and AOTT do to prevent this?
Yes, it's a dumb question, but I was thinking about it and wondered if this happens...

OFSL has mix ups sometimes, too
When I went throught recruitment, I registered late but still on time. The Recruitment Team had not entered my info and assigned me a Rho Gamma until I frantically called them a half hour before I was supposed to be somewhere (I wasn't sure where because I had not heard from my Rho Gamma). Anyway, they gave me my Rho Gamma's name and my group number and told me to go to AOPi because that was the first chapter my group was going to. As I was running down towards the chapter houses, I ran into a large group of girls (obviously it could only be one thing) and asked them what group they were in, and it was my group! Turns out we went to ADPi instead of AOPi! I was soooo lucky and thankful that I just happened to run into the right group and go to the right place.
My friend Dani was giving her Rho Gamma her choices for pref night and her Rho Gamma bubbled Alpha Phi instead of AOPi. It didn't matter because AChiO was her first choice and that's where she ended up pledging anyway.
In general, PNMs at UMD don't have too much trouble keeping ADPi and AOPi straight because the two have distinctly different personalities as a whole.

Sometimes girls get confused between Delta Gamma and Delta Zeta early on in recruitment and just refer to them as "the one with the turtles" or "the one with the Raggedy Ann".

Thank God for bubble sheets that spell out the names of each sorority. They make mistakes a lot less common.

Heck I came home after recruitment (A LOOOONG TIME AGO) and told my brother I am an AOPi then he read my shirt and he said no your shirt sez ADPi - I was so embarrassed - 1) we didn't even have an AOPi on our campus and 2) come on I should have known by all of the songs on bid day and so on. (don't get me wrong I think I knew I was an ADPi but that is an easy slip for a new pledge)
Anyway That is my story

My campus has 17 sororities, including AOPi and ADPi. I've never really heard of any PNMs at Miami getting the two confused - not sure why. Both chapters use really memorable re-written songs during open house (AOPi uses "Living on a Prayer" and ADPi uses "Crazy Game of Poker") so maybe that helps them stand out?

It was a problem at Illinois. We had 21 sororities at the time so the sheer number made it difficult to remember them anyway, but additionally, the ADII house is right behind the AOII house. Rushees would frequently go directly from one to the other. Very, very confusing.

We didn't have ADPi at our school, but I can remember saying that I'd joined "Alpha Omega Pi" for the first day or two. Yes, I joined via COB!

AOTT alum, that is hilarious!!! LOVE IT!
I have joked with my AOTT cousin that we're one letter off from being sisters. There's no ADPi at her college; no AOTT at mine. But I can see where no matter the letters, even the newbies would get confused. Heck, it is a whole new alphabet!

The name doesn't have to be similar for it to happen. One year when I was helping out with recruitment one of our members found out on bid day that the reason her very good friend didn't end up preffing us was because she got Chi Omega and Sigma Kappa confused. She had realized her mistake when she walked into the party but it was too late to do anything about it.

Don't get me started on Chi Omega and Alpha Chi Omega:
"Hi I'm Emily. I'm in A Chi O"
- "You're a Chi O?"
"Alpha Chi Omega"
- "Huh? Is that the same thing as Chi Omega?"
What can you do? I've started saying Alpha Chi exclusively.

LOL. There was so much confusion when Chi O colonized at UCF, as we had a closed chapter of A Chi O in the recent past.
Greek Director: "We used to have A-Chi-O."
Sorority Girl A: "Really? We used to have a Chi-O?"
Sorority Girl A to Sorority Girl B: "We used to have a Chi-O chapter and they're recolonizing!"
Sorority Girl B to Fraternity Boy: "Chi-O is recolonizing!"
Very confusing!
