Alumnae Panhellenic

Hi All!

I was just wondering if anyone currently sits on an Alumnae Panhellenic or has been in the begining of creating one in your area?

I am in the creation process and have gotten great responses back from all groups but wanted suggestions regarding our meetings and what has worked and not worked for yours... I am working with NPC too and they are great, but just wanted to see if any of you had any imput as well.

Anything would help, I have never been part of ALPH before...

I"m going to be going through my second term as APH President, and previously served 2 terms as VP.

We meet once a month, September - April. We plan a big Luncheon every Feb. with a silent and live auction that we use to fund our scholarships. We award 2-6 scholarships annualy at the luncheon.

This next year (02-03) we are stepping up PR efforts and will be planning another city-wide Panhellenic event in the Fall to coincide with the NPC Centennial.

Please e-mail me with any other questions you may have.

I am entering my second year as the Hawaii Alumnae Panhellenic President and previously served two years as VP Scholarship.

We also hold monthly meetings, but ours cover September through May. We also hold an executive meeting in July to set the calendar for the upcoming year.

We do three fundraisers....

We sell Entertainment books. (Doesn't bring in much money, but every bit helps.)

We hold a Card Party in January. Bridge players pay to come play bridge at a local country club. Price includes a light lunch, beverages, a door prize, and a visit or two (sometimes even three) to our white elephant table. We also have a used book sale on the side to help drum up some extra cash.

We have a Spring Luncheon each May, which is our biggest fundraiser. At the luncheon, we present our scholarships, have a fashion show, serve lunch, sell raffle tickets, and hold a silent auction made up of gift baskets. Donations are received from all of our members and solicited from local vendors.

We awarded 8 scholarships (4 collegiate and 4 to graduating high school seniors) this year. It varies year to year depending on what funds we have available and the number of applicants.

I'm happy to share any more info! Let me know what you need!

Warmest,
Mai Ly

Thanks for all the info!

We are in the begining right now and are looking forward to starting this up. We seem not to have a huge base of members to be working with, but I think it will work out.

I would love to start a program that invovles the ALPH visiting local HS and talking about Greek Life on campuses around the country and where the HS students will be attending.

Thanks again!

That's a great idea. We've been working on a way to do the same.

For now, in order to get the word out, we participate in the annual College and Career Fair held in November. The students are brought in by bus loads for two days, and some wander in on their own with their parents. We set up a booth with flyers and brochures about sororities and going greek, and we decorate it with all greek items from all the NPC sororities represented here in Hawaii. We have the girls that stop by fill out an information card, and then mail scholarship information to them later. We also note the school they attend and send information to their counselor.

You may want to check into any college fairs in your area. It's a great way to reach a whole lot of students without having to travel too far

Aloha,
Mai Ly

bump!

This thread hasn't been used in over 4 years, but it would be helpful for those of us in Madison, WI
We're working to get APH (re?)instated in Madison, and are curious what cities have active APH.
We have checked out npcwomen.org, and it looks like there are no APH groups in Wisconsin at all.
I've emailed the Advisor to Prospective Alumnae Panhellenics, and I have the info from the 13th ed. of the Green Book, but any advice from current APH members would be appreciated as well.
Feel free to post who you are, what APH group you're a part of, and any tips you have for forming/running APH.
Thanks so much, ladies!
