NPC policy on work week activities involving fraternities?
Hokay,
So the campus where I advise has a tradition of each sorority inviting a fraternity over for a "Mock Recruitment" during work week where members perform their recruitment skit for the fraternity men and then do a non-alc function afterwards such as a cookout or pizza. This year, the girls actually sent in the proper forms to our PDC letting her know about the event, and she came back with a question about it being proper as Fraternity and NPC policy clearly states no men are to be involved with recruitment or bid day activities.
The GA at the school doesn't see any issue with this as it's done during work week, completely before recruitment when there are no PNMs around, and it's been a tradition for years (I know, tradition doesn't mean it's right. This is also the GA who was going to allow a woman who had pledged through informal recruitment in the spring, and then depledged, to go through formal recruitment again right away in the fall only one semester later.)
I don't have an NPC Manual of Information handy, but I was wondering if there was anyone who knows whether the policies extend to work week events as well as recruitment? I know that if the Fraternity says it can't happen, it's not going to, but the girls are trying to find any way they can to see if they can still have their Mock Recruitment as they claim they'll be the only chapter not doing it.

Well, here's the way I see it...
Work week is not a planned NPC event. Lots of chapters/schools don't have it. If y'all decided you didn't want to have a work week, the Panhel at your school couldn't do anything to penalize you for it. Therefore, Panhel can't say what you can and can't do at it.
Now if KKG is saying that you can't do it, that's another story. But that would be a KKG policy, not blaming it on Panhel.

This makes sense to me too. I wish I could tell you that I knew the exact rules. But practicing your skit is not recruitment. There are no PNMs anywhere near you and none will be affected by the presence of fraternity boys.
So basically one big ditto to 33girl

We got it figured out. As its held during work week, it's technically okay, but not exactly encouraged (which is kind of what I expected). Next year I think we'll try doing Mock Recruitment events with other sororities instead.

This is what we did, and it worked out well. Gave the women a chance to interact and rush other women.

The Alum Club has its kickoff meeting at the house the Sunday before Recruitment starts. The chapter performs the skits/slideshow. The members get a little practice in, and the alums get the see the house/chapter/other alums. The alums can join the Alum Club then and volunteer to help with the chapter or Alum Club.

In the past, they've invited alumnae to come over one night during work week to watch the skit and tour the house. It's had mixed results. Some years they get 8-9 alumnae to attend and some years only one or two advisors will show up. I bet if they coordinated with the local alumnae association, they'd have a better, and more consistent, turnout.

We practiced with another chapter too. It was a good way to practice groups and bumps and conversations (no houses so we were just in a room)
I always enjoyed being a "bad" rushee (as long as the practice rusher was having fun too) and asking things about alcohol and fake IDs

Hey...everyone is GOING to eventually get that rushee that really wants to know how much alcohol you drink and how many guys she's going to get to sleep with. Everyone needs practise fielding that stuff.

It's a good way to foster relations between the chapter and the alums, too.

In April, once our spring class is initiated, we do a rush workshop specifically for all the new girls that joined that year who have obviously never participated on our side of recruitment.
The more experienced rushers get to play PNMs. I also enjoyed playing "PNM from hel". Alot of the new girls can't believe that people actually ask some of the things they do.

Yeah, plus the look on their faces when I asked... lol
Of course it wasn't just "So do you guys party?" it was "OMG, I was soooooo trashed last night. I think I'm still buzzed now... You guys will help hook me up with a fake right? Because it's getting sooo hard to get my Natty Light without it..."

If you were rushing and said that to me, I would've cut you for drinking Natty Light.

About two years after I graduated I had arrange for some of our alumnae to go to the chapter and help prepare the last 2 pledge classes for rush, since they were inexperienced. (NOTE- chapters should be all about events that kill two birds with one stone- you get both a rush workshop AND an alumnae event out of it!).
I asked those same questions, and all kinds of other stuff. They had NO clue how to answer, even though the VP Recruitment said they had been prepared. After we did a few mock rounds, everyone got together and discussed stuff and I think it really helped them understand how to react.
