Name this badge...question on which fraternity/sorority pin this is
Hello all!
Well, over my sorority's alumnae listserv, the following badge has been the topic of conversation because on Ebay it is listed as a Delta Zeta badge (however, it clearly is not, and does not appear to have been an early badge of DZ either). I'm wondering if anyone on here can recognize it and provide a little history on it:
Let me know what you think!
Thanks!
Renee

Perhaps it is a pin/badge for an organization named Zeta Delta. I did a search on Zeta Delta and didn't come up with anything. However, I did not peruse every page.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what makes you think that it's absolutely NOT an older DZ badge? DZ's national website is very vague on their description of previous badge styles.

It could simply be a man made creation with no significant Greek meaning.
For example, a few years we found a series of "Mystic Cat" Phi Mu Alpha Tablets being hand crafted and put up for sale on Ebay. It ends up that they were built by a European guy that lived in Sweden. He enjoyed designing and building art from ideas he'd come across via the internet. He had no affiliation to the brotherhood, the Greek system, or the US at that. He was amazed to discover the demand for his tablets in the US.
This pin could possibly be a jeweler's artwork created from ideas.

The seller has over 100 pins up for auction (liquidation of an estate - a pin collector died - woo hoo anybody?) and in the 100 pins there is a Delta Zeta badge and a Delta Zeta pledge pin so he assumed it was also DZ. It is definitely not DZ. A friend of mine is a regional volunteer and told me so. She has been studying historical groups which merged with DZ over the years.
Take the listing at face value. A seller does not always know what they have. They cannot be experts in all fields and may not have been greek.
I often see Phi Delta Epsilon medical fraternity listed as Delta Phi Epsilon. The pearl in PDE is pearled and therefore it is assumed that this is the first letter.
No biggie. Move on.

I don't see why we're assuming it's a delta. The Sigma Kappa pin is set on a triangle of the same proportions, and it is not a delta.

No, I don't tthink so. The designs he's making aren't of any official insignia, like the badge or coat-of-arms, but of a historic Mystic Cat design. You can see one of them here. For comparison, here is one example of the original design he was working from:

(If it doesn't show up, you can click here.
The reality is that since he is in Europe, it would be hard to do anything except ask him to stop. The other reality is that a lot of brothers have liked his work, so they're buying it.

well thank you all for the responses - I was by no mean obsessing or outraged at the ebay auctioners innaccuracy in identifying who it belongs to. I knew for sure it wasn't DZ having taught DZ new member ed and our badge being a major source of pride (as it is for many fraternity/sorority organizations), however, was just curious if others had seen it mainly for my own personal interest. I thought it may not be a GLO, but was hoping maybe someone else had seen it before...

Could also be Zonta and not a greek letter pin at all.
