Unhappy Very Sad

Yesterday I saw some friends in their yard shooting fireworks, so I stoppedto talk for a minute. I haven't seen them in years, and one of them is the sister to my best friend from highschool and my first couple years of college, who was also the first boy I ever loved. After catching up a little, I asked about him, and it turns out that he passed away from a heart attack at age 34 in March. He was engaged to be married that Saturday. They were able to tell most of our friends, but weren't able to reach me to let me know. I haven't seen him in at least 5 years, but I have so many good memories of him and he was such a big part of my life for 8 years, so it was a shock and I'm pretty upset.
Usually when someone close to me has died I've been able to go to a funeral or visitation or something to have a chance to say goodbye or get closure, but it happened months ago so I can't. Had I known, I probably would have sent flowers or something. I'm thinking of making a donation to the American Heart Association in his memory or something like that. What do you think?

How very sad for you. I think a donation in his honor would be a great idea.

(((hugs))) Sorry for your loss. I think that the donation in his honor is a very nice idea. You could see if there's a specific organization that his family asked for donations in his name to be made to.

Please accept my sympathy, MTSUGURL - such a tragic way to find out about someone you loved. I would definitely make a donation of some sort, either to the heart association or something that was dear to him, and ask them to notify the family. It was so sweet that they even tried to get in touch with you, the donation will be such a lovely gesture.
