Mommy, I'm a big kid now!
Question for everyone:
When did you realize you were a 'grown up'? Was there a specific moment or a series of events that finally made you feel like, "Wow, I'm old and on my own!"

Okay, I'm not completely grown up yet, but I realized that I was grown up when my older sister looked at me and said " I can't believe you're such an adult!"
There is a significant age gap between me and my sisters (6 and 8 years), and they always treated me like I was 12 even after I started college. So I was quite pleased when she said so

Eventhough I was already 25, I did not realize that I was grown up until I had to sometimes make sacrifices to pay my mortgage!

When I had my heart broken for the first time (and I don't mean puppy love)
When I moved out of my folks house (finally!!)
When I moved away from Atlanta to a different country.
When my father died... that was probably the most definitive moment of all.

I believe that I knew that I wasn't a 'kid' anymore when I moved out of my mom's home and moved 5hrs away to attend a University. But, sometimes I like to feel like I'm still a kid, but that barely happens...

I knew I was a grown up when I finally realized that my life was in shambles because I didn't listen to my parents.

When I spent the night gettin' drunk and sex all night for new year's eve, and my mom DIDN'T try to whoop me or put me on a punishment.

I think in many respects I am very much a kid at heart. Although my bils are my own, I pretty much live the lifestyle selfishly for me. I have no children and I am for all practical purposes single.
I think when I will finally...fully, acknowledge, I am not a kid anymore is when I have a little person calling me "mommy".

When my aunt (who I lived with throughout my teenage years) carted me off to Morgan State University, dropped off my trunk, gave me a hug and told me " I aint coming back here until graduation." (Of course this was after she dealt with the financial aid line!!!) Most of yall know what the deal is with the financial aid line.

Mommy, I'm a big kid now!
I realized I wasn't a kid anymore when I started paying rent, fixing things on my car, and when my bestfriends started having kids.
