Initiation cost?

Before we were sooooooo rudely interrupted by the DRAMA , I was going post that we (APhiO) pay less than 50 dollars for initiation.

If it is held to a non name calling thread, it should be alright!

Just a Hint!

DSTCHAOS, Yes, You are correct, there is a difference between Socila and Service.

I do not need to get a flame job on this as I am a member of both and have respect For both!

Thank you!

Tom, the point was simply that he called Alpha Phi a "sorority" which it isn't. It's a women's fraternity. The post wasn't about social vs service. The point was that there's no need to emphasize that one is a "fraternity" when both of them are.

fraternity, sorority, or forority.

Alpha Phi - sorority. they may call themselves a fraternity, to try and be technical, sure whatever. but in reality, they are a sorority.

I doubt Valkyrie goes around telling people, " hey i'm in a fraternity! WOOOOOOOOOOOOO! EVERYBODY'S WORKIN FOR DA WEEKEND!"

I wasn't correcting BobbytheDon's reference to them as a "sorority" but rather joshing Virtuous Woman for capitalizing FRATERNITY-- as if both aren't fraternities in title. One co-ed and the other with a female membership.

Initiation costs=====>

Just to add...

In terms of the use of sorority and fraternity, the term or use of sorority wasn't around until after some older women's GLO's were founded. Tri Delta is a "Women's Fraternity" for that reason - some sisters and I were discussing this the other day. We were founded in 1888 so it must be after then. I can't recall the first women's GLO to use the term "sorority" - I'm thinking it was Gamma Phi or AGD, but can't be certain.

Well, then why dont We as semi Adults get back to the Original Question instead of the Friggen B S!

Actually speaking from One GLO, it is close to that!

Some things are included in the fees.

spotie, no one cares! Go to other threds an argue this!

BobbyTheDon, do a background check!

SmartBlondeGPhB, Yes, We are all aware of this gaffe.

Is there a difference between Social, Service, and Honorary Greek Organizations, etal?

Yes there is in the functions that They Profess. But basically very close in todays Greek World.

Do they use Greek letters, Yes. It is a given.

Maybe one of these days, The Special Service and Honoray Greeks will petition to become Social Greeks.

Some think they are in one form or another!

No, in reality and legally, they are probably chartered as a women's fraternity. Most are. Not all.

You say it yourself, "to try and be technical."

The terms "sorority," although used almost exclusively when speaking of women's GLOs is actually the technically incorrect term for many of them.
