EBay names
Ladies,
I thought it might be a good idea to make a list of our theta eBay names so that we arn't bidding against eachother for pins on ebay and such. I mean, if two people want the same pin then by all means bid away, but where I'm comming from is that I'm concerned that when one of us is trying to out bid someone because we don't want the pin to fall into the wrong hands we might be bidding against a Theta, and driving the price up!

I hate to bid against other Thetas for Theta material, too. Many people use Ebay names that make it CLEAR to sisters that we are members.
My Ebay name is katlady1073... pretty easy to spot! Any bidder name with "kao" or "theta" or even "kite" is almost certainly a Theta, as well. And of course, when you see "thetarchive" bidding, I hope we all know to step away from the auction!!
As for badges "falling into the wrong hands" well, there is not a lot that we can do about that OTHER than make sure that our own badges are provided for after we depart this earth. We cannot buy them all back.

Well yes, but some of us have had eBay and have built up positive ratings before we were Thetas, so it's hard for other thetas to tell who we are.
I for instance just got a pin in a buy it now auction and had a theta search through my past auctions and come to the conclusion that I was an AGD. Had I been bidding on the auction rather then "buy it now" she would have bid against me, as she thought I was an Alpha Gamm.
Is the ebay name for "ThetaArchive" "thetaarchie"? that's all that came up when I searched.

You are right. I did change my Ebay name from Catlady to Katlady quite some time ago to clarify my affiliation. My original rating came over to the new name, but I do realize that a lot of people don't like to do that. It can make some people wonder why you changed your name.

I can't find it anymore either. It is not thetaarchie. I know it used to be thetarchive or thetarchives. Anybody else remember?

I think the Theta archive eBay user name is KATarchive ... but now that I type that, I'm not sure.

I would see about starting this kind of thread on the Theta website on the passworded chat board section. More Thetas read that than they do here and that might also help there as well not to outbid another sister to save Theta items.

ladies, while the premise is admirable, Ebay is a public auction site and just because there is another Theta bidding does not necessarily mean that we have the right to collude and/or ask people not to bid against us.
Also, please remember that greekchat is a public forum too and I know there are folks who troll for names & information, specifically I have heard that there are some who look for ebay names.
Yes I am annoyed when another Theta outbids me. But just because I was the first one to the auction does not make it my right to own that item. The only way I get to own something on ebay is being willing to pay more and bidding appropriately.
"saving badges" and collectors are a whole separate topics we don't want to get started on in this thread-I will suffice it to say that I do not consider myself a rescuer/saver. You are welcome to start another thread or PM me if you want to discuss further..

I'm not sure what use having someone's ebay name would be. But if there is some use to having it then you are absolutely right and it's a public forum so we shouldn't discuss it here. My mistake.
I didn't say (or mean to say) that thetas should never bid against eachother. I was simply saying, that after a comment was made in another thread about someone wanting to "rescue a badge" but they didn't "get to it in time and it went to someone who appeared to be an AGD". I thought it might be a good idea to let eachother know who we were.
I was just saying that if someone is trying to "rescue a badge" from a non theta that it might be a good idea to make sure it was a non theta they were bidding against (if that makes sense?). Ebay is a market place and if two thetas want something, of course they should bid against eachother for it. My point was those who try to "rescue" badges may be trying to "rescue" them from other thetas, that's all.
I know that it's unrealistic to try to "save" every pin, but I also know there are people that try, and I can respect that. I just thought knowing other thetas might make it easier for all concerned.
sorry about that,
Constance
