Have you heard of Progressive Black Men, Inc

The mission statement of Progressive Black Men, Inc is to eradicate negative stereotypes placed on those of African descent, especially men, through academic excellence, communal support, and the fellowship of our brothers.

In the summer of 1989 on the campus of Florida State University in Tallahassee , Florida , a group of friends were formed through a summer enrichment program for minorities at the institution. During the fall semester the gentlemen established academics as their foundation; however, their participation in community service and campus activities created a bond much stronger than friendship. The twelve gentlemen made a proposition to create an organization that fostered service, student enrichment, and genuine brotherhood. Thus on November 27, 1989 , the birth of Progressive Black Men was established!

From their website: www.progressiveblackmen.com/index_home.htm

What does everyone think about this organization?

I'm an FSU alum so I know all about PBM. I like what PBM stands for, however I think that it's too greek like now. I've seen some of them with line-style jackets. Also, I've seen a lot of guys who are now greek come through PBM first. I wouldn't say that PBM was a feeder for D9 orgs but it's not a conincidence. Youcan also check out their sisters at http://www.sistuhs.org.

Honestly, I went to FAMU and I'd never heard of PBM until this year. One of our first year students is/was a member of the FSU PBM (you probably know him N4L). Then again, we had SO many groups at FAMU, all trying to be greek-like that it was of ridiculous proportions. I had heard of SISTUHS when I was at FAMU because someone talked to me about it when I was a freshman.
I can't really speak on what PBM does. All I know is what the one member has told me, and his judgment and reasoning is questionable to me so I refuse to go by anything he says.
