Debating if i should join
I'm currently a junior right now (and i know for a fact i'm gonna be here for about an extra year), and for some reason my social life on the weekends seemed to have turned pretty bad. i somewhat seemed to have lost touch with most of my friends, and only hang out with a few people, and if they aren't doing anything, i end up being bored outta my mind (a lot of them transfered out due to the cost of the school). so i was thinking about joining a fraternity at my school, the only thing is that i know most of them here do haze in one way or another (i have friends in almost all of them), and i was wondering if going through all that is actualy worth it. at my school the greek life is very closed, and each fraternity has about 3 open parties all year, usualy they have about 2 socials a week.

You're a junior in high school.

2 socials a week? How many sororities are on your campus (and how the hell high are your dues)? We're a big school with really high social dues and we're not doing that.

Hmmm,
Fraternities have 2 socials a week at your campus, your junior life is bad because you lost touch with most of your friends, you have friends in what must be frat-star fraternities having 2 socials a week and yet most of your friends have gone to other schools because it is too expensive.
Elephant Walk called it. At least I hope he did. If you are a junior in college looking to get into Greek life- I suggest you do a lot more homework about what is considered a social etc. so that you have the right expectations. Generally speaking, juniors have options at most campuses- though not as many as freshmen.

well they also do socials with sports teams, but these are the popular fraternities on campus, i know about three who rarely have a socials (those are the ones sororities don't really like). its kinda funny thinking about it because if you talk to anyone not in the greek system they think its kinda stupid to join because the school is small. but i did meet some people thru my friends in greek life that i would never see or knew they existed. In total there are 8 fraternities and 7 sororities, i know there are others besides the ones i counted, but they seem to be almost non existant.

Yeah, you know, like back when Zook was still UF's coach and Pi Kapp had a "social" with the football team and got their asses kicked.

If Greeks at your school are having socials with the sports teams, you can probably join if you really want to. I have no way of knowing if the hazing stories are the truth or just guys trying to sound hard (it happens).
Really, it's your call as to what you can put up w/ and what you can't, and whether you have enough $$ to afford it.

Can you explain some of the stuff that you went through?
If embarrassing pledges or something was involved, hard to imagen a college junior taking such.
