Talking Continuous Open Bidding

Hi Deltas,

Boston U just finished formal recruitment and our chapter didn't do as well as we expected... do any of you have suggestions/ideas/etc. on ways to have a VERY successful COB and to convince our sisters to be actively involved?

My advice would be to do things that sisters would like to participate in, not just rush nights. Make things fun for everyone. Simple things like movie nights, going to sporting events, etc usually help out. Try searching elsewhere on GC. I remember some threads with good ideas, I'll see if I can find it out.

Hey -- my chapter is currently going through COB right now. We have been planning events for PNMs such as "manicure and a movie", board game night, pasta dinners, cookie decorating, smores making, making bracelets for St. Jude's, etc. These events have been pretty well attended so far, and many more of them have yet to occur. We are giving out our bids on Friday but the majority of the activities are planned for after Bid Day. I'll post how it all goes.

Also - we split our chapter into about 5 or 6 "teams". Each team was responsible for planning 2 COB events. Each girl was required only to attend her team event, but we have been getting pretty good attendance from the sisters at all events so far. Seniors (in their last semester of college) were not required but encouraged to participate in these events.

my chapter had the same problem, and this past spring we had a very successful informal recuritment, we got 8 new c.o.b.'s!!!! we set up a cute fashion show and had cute little flyers made up like invitations to give out to girls we thought we be a good fit for us. A good way to get the actives more involved is to pass out a paper at chapter or something where women can write their ideas for activities and at least one person they know who could be a pnm. this way they are almost guarenteed to have an activity they want to do! good luck, delta love!

I will say that feeding any college student was a plus on our campus. When you are broke, or just too busy to cook it was very much appreciated. Our best C.O.B. events had a home cooked meal. We had a small chapter (45 at our largest, very small school) so it was not that expensive to feed everyone. Also, our cafeteria food just was not even a little good.

The manicure night sounds fun!
