anybody heard anything about this school opening for the
greeks? Years ago it was a kinda work-study school and the
president belonged to more outfits than one can count. That
area is a hotspot for retirees. Maybe some Zete alums have
got somethin goin.

My mom went there, and it was my second choice. They are, however, hard-line conservative (#1 reason I didn't attend, I would totally have gotten kicked out). It's in Branson, MO (I used to live there, and it's only 1 hour away now), and is a very very nice school.

Tuition is free, because you do a sort of work-study thing to pay for it.

Them getting Greeks would be...weird. Really weird.

Yes, every Berea student is required to work 10-15 hours per week in one of the 140 different labor departments across campus. Your labor position is chosen for you your first year, but after that you can interview with other departments if you want to work in a different position. While some portion of student labor is used to assist with the 4-year tuition scholarship (*), students can earn $110-$300 a month to help pay for books, room, board, and personal expenses.

* Everyone is awarded a 4-year, tuition scholarship

As far as as I know there is nothing going on at the College of the Ozarks from Zeta Psi. We don't go looking for chapters in the US, we wait for them to come to us. In the past year, we were approached by groups from at least 6 schools. Half of these were dismissed quickly as unsuitable schools.
-A school SHOULD be ranked in the top 100 schools in the US to be eligible. USNews generally accepted as the leading scholastic ranking organization: But other factors, like a hostile administration, could also cause Zete to shy away. The board set a policy that the premier public school in each state would automatically be eligible.
-Not to say that we are only in the top 100 as one of our interest groups for example is only 109.


Here are the schools we are looking at now: Our colony at the University of Georgia and interest groups at Florida State University, University of Binghamton, University of Miami, St. Francis Xavier University (Nova Scotia, Canada), and a restart of the Alpha Beta at the Univ. of Minnesota.

One of my old cronies who lives in the Branson area was kidding
me about College of the Ozarks. I suspected this, but one never
knows...my image of the school over the years...was just a cut
above the food chain, and even moreso than Berea,
So...I apologize to the Zetes and you-all, and as positive as I am about greek growth, I sure fouled my mess kit here.

While I agree that your friend was joking, not everyone who goes to C of O is poor. It's a good school, and even rich kids need to have a work ethic! It's way WAY too religious for me, but it's not a bad place, and certainly not just for the poor kids!

When I first began looking at colleges, I seriously considered going to College of the Ozarks. I was attracted by the aspect of work study (and it also had my major) as well as the chance to experience another part of the country.

I wonder where I'd be now if I *had* gone there...

Having lived in the Ozarks for most of my life, Erik, I think that there is about as much chance of BBC or Evangel opening up to Greek life...
