This message has originated from Soror Susan Ross of Chicago. This is an UNOFFICIAL call for AKA Para Day...on Friday, Sept. 6th. I have edited this message, as appropriate, in order to post on a public forum

We are asking you to participate in AKA PARAPHERNALIA DAY on
Friday, September 6th.
September is a transitional month for many -- educators return to work, graduate programs start, recent graduates begin new careers, people complete moves to new cities, etc. - - and in many ways it is a difficult month for us all. However, we hope the smiles and introductions in acknowledgment of the paraphernalia will lift many sorors spirits, because there is comfort when in the presence of our sorors.
Now, when we say paraphernalia, we know some of you don't own a t-shirt or sweatshirt, and couldn't/wouldn't wear it (especially to work) even if you did have one. What we're talking about is:
* something as subtle as a gold lavalier around your neck or a sorority ring or
* a lapel or tack pin or
* AKA shoestrings in your gym shoes while you're walking from the train to your job or
* if you've got the kind of job that allows this (especially
since this falls on Friday, casual day at many places of employment) -- head-to-toe AKA down (baseball cap, ponytail in a scrunchie, earrings, lavalier, bracelet, ring, jacket, t-shirt, jogging pants, sock, gym shoes and shoestrings with AKA, while carrying our AKA umbrella in the left hand and our AKA backpack with a AKA fanny pack around the waist!
No . . . this is not an officially designated day sanctioned by
Headquarters. It's just an all-effort to get sorors -- active and inactive;graduate and undergraduate; pledged and MIP'd; city, suburban and rural; living in the continental US, in the Caribbean or overseas -- to acknowledge our membership and to acknowledge each other.
Sorors, when you walk by other sorors tomorrow, smile . . . and speak. If you're in your car when you see a soror, honk and throw up that pinky. Just be a gracious AKA and say, "Hello soror. Fine AKA day we're having!"
So, start digging in your closet and jewelry box NOW. Don't miss out . . . be a part of AKA Paraphernalia Day . . . Friday, September 6th! TOMORROW!
