Migraines

I suffer from Migraines. I recently had a Migraine since thursday. I usually take Imitrex, but if you know anything about Migraines if you don't take migraine related medicine at the start of the headache you are screwed. I thought I was going to meet my maker this weekend, I had to go to the emgerency room to get something strong enough to give me some type of relief. My doctor says your menstrual cycle andof course stress can bring them on.
Does anyone else experience migraines? If so is there anything you do as a preventive measure such as diet or meds? What helps when you get rid them? The emergency room gave me Torodal which isn't normally used for migraines but right now is the only reason I'm functioning at all right now.

Mine arent as bad as yours. I had head pains, nauseus(sp)and have to be in the complete darkness. Imitrex gave me chest pains. My doctor prescribed me something else and it made me drowsy. I decided to stick with the over the counter Excedrine for Migraines. It worked great. I think it is the cafeine. Sometimes when I have a slight headache, I drink a coke or pepsi and the cafeine kills the headache.

My migraines were completely stress related. I worked a job I hated with a boss that I couldnt stand. Miraculously when I got another job, the migraines went away for the most part. Now, I deal with other stress related illnesses but very few migraines.

I get them, too, and they're totally dehabilitating. I use the Imitrix, but my SIL uses Romig. Romig nauseates me to the point of having to go to bed.

In the perfect pre-migraine scenario, I take the Exederine Migraine, then if it doesn't work within an hour, take the Imitrix. If I'm not at work, I'll lie down in a cool, dark room with a cold cloth on my head - I get the full blown symptoms (nausea, poor reaction to light/noise, passing out), and my earliest memory of kindergarten is of having a migraine.

Hope you can find a good treatment!

I am currently going through the worst migraine period in my life! Normally, I will get maybe 2 or 3 a month around my menstrual cycle or during high stress periods. Currently, I am getting them 2 or 3 times a week, sometimes more than one a day so its almost like one continuous headache.

Normally, the Excedrine Migraine helps me also but it has become inadequate. My doc put me on Imitrex but I went through them so fast (2 packs of 9 pills in less than two weeks!) that she said to go back to the EM until I see the headache specialist.

Unfortunately, I was not able to get an appointment until the first week of May so I suffer in the meantime.

i get really bad migrines as well.
You should check and make sure your birth control is one that is for people with migrines. my doctor switched mine a year ago and the headaches got worse so I switched to one that works for people with migrines.
I have also found certain foods trigger them and stress does as well. good luck

I suffer from Migraines and I use Exedrine for Migraines. I get all of the symptons as well - but I definitely have to be in the dark with a cold towel on my face. I get really hot and if I move it feels like my head is going to fall off. (I'm laughing as I am saying this but it is true). My doctor said the pain from the headache brings on a panic attack - that is why I get hot and shaky.

I have noticed some relief since changing my birth control pills and suprisingly - since having a breast reduction.
The pressure on the back and shoulders can cause severe headaches.

Usually a stiff cup of coffee and an Exedrine works for me. Also, catch it before it catches you is my motto. I try to take something as soon as I feel a little pain.

I get them really bad around my cycle also, my doctor says they trigger them. Look into cluster headaches you may find you symptons are very similiar to those types of migraines. I have gone through 3 packs of imitrex in 3 weeks (9 pills) $30 a presciption.

Soror, I am KUNTRY and stick to my Granny's home remedies. I take a table spoon of vinegar. Believe it or not, it does the trick

I went for years without knowing another soul that suffers from migraines the way that I do. I found a lot of people on healingwell.com that understood what I was going through. My family and friends thought I was crazy to let a "headache" keep me in bed for days at a time. It is all in my head they would say.

I have had migraines for as long as I can remember, but I also started gettign daily headaches six years ago after my daughter was born.

I now have daily headaches that can and do develop into migraines. I have tried everything from Magnesium to Topamax and now I have finally found a combination that works cymbalta, an anti depressant, and 2 Excedrin as soon as I wake up each morning. I take Relpax for the mirgraine pain.

It seems to be working fairly well so far.

P.S. My Relpax co pay is $73.58 for 12 pills. I hate Cigna

An old home remedy my daddy used for my mother. A half hour of rock steady will transfer the synapse impulses to a region far from the cranium.

A conversation I had with my Dad as an 8 yr old

Son to Dad

"Dad, why do you buy a bottle of Old Grandad every 28 days and why does it last only a week"

Dad to son

"Without that bottle, you wouldn't see me for a week"

Good luck with that issue. I had a co-worker who had to resign due to the severity of her migraines.
