LXA CSUF Brother In Accident
One of the chapter members I advise sent the following:
One of the Lambda Chi Alpha brothers on campus was involved in a car accident while he was on his way to Lake Havasu. Luckily, the two other brothers in the car with him were wearing their belts and walked away with only minor injuries.

Recent activity at Fullerton
I am the chapter advisor for Lambda Chi Alpha @ Cal State Fullerton.
One of the undergraduate members of the chapter was seriously injured in an auto accident. Until the California Highway Patrol issues a report, and until we have permission from the family we will not be sharing any information with the public.
The loss of an undergraduate is the worst nightmare for a chapter advisor. We all know that it is possible, but we dread the day when it happens. It is difficult enough for the chapter to deal with, but the added burden of inaccurate or non-public information being spread just makes the task harder. It is tough enough to deal with the media without the additional hassle of trying to "un-do" bad information and quash rumors.
I'd ask readers to not make any more statements as this will only make it tougher for the chapter at Fullerton to address this incident.

You make this sound like my posting was malicious. The Greekchat community has always come together to support fellow greeks in situations like this so perhaps you should see it in that light. This is has been just as hard for the rest of the greek community on that campus as the brothers...

John,
You're right. As a Division VP, I've gotten a call from a Greek Advisor that several members were in a serious auto accident along with rumors of alcohol involvement (proven false) -- and shortly after, about a suicide at another chapter.
What you say is true, but it just isn't possible -- and perhaps not even prudent -- to try to stop any discussion of something that is bound be bring comments.
While investigations are underway, it may not be in the best interest of the family or the chapter to make any comments on investigations or specific medical facts, but the best way to quash what may be rumors or inaccuracies is by keeping the public, or in this case caring members of this BB as up to date as possible and sharing what information is available without hindering the investigation or causing the family undue pain or hardships.
The fact that part of the information is public record and will be in the media, and the best way to keep posted information true and accurate is to keep people as well advised as possible.
Well meaning comments are likely to be posted.

My best goes out to the members and the chapter. If there were risk management issues involved, I would support and understand the purpose behind removing this thread or declining to add comments, but what has been posted appears that this is a case of bad weather. No one LXA has been accused of exercising poor judgement.
In support of the OP-- I feel that she was reporting on a non-risk management related issue to let us know that we have Greek brothers who were involved in a tragedy and to keep them in our prayers. HBADPi is an ADPi adviser. I know her personally, and can vouch for her good sense and maturity. She has studied our sorority's policies and manuals well enough, as well as the CSUF honor code to understand what is appropriate to reveal about any CSUF group. I'm not understanding where this has painted LXA in a negative light.
My best wishes go out to LXA and these members, and also in support of my sorority sister HBADPi, because I feel she is acted in the best interest of the injured members-- so that we can keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

In Defense of HBADPi who PMed Me about this, it was and will not be anything wrong with what was Posted.
Also In Defense of John1082, being the Advisore who called me Sun. I am sure He was very distraught about what happended to One of His Charges as it were.
I am sure He was concerned about many things as We talked and I can understand what He was saying.
The first thing We should think about is not pointing a finger, but thinking of This Young Man, His Family, His Brothers and His Friends.

a matter of privacy
To all GC members,
Well-wishing posts aside, please do not post any specific information about the circumstances or parties involved in this incident unless the information has already been made public record (please cite your source). We should respect the chapter's and families' privacy in this sensitive issue.
Thanks!

What is sad is that this dialogue has raised suspicions that I don't think were otherwise there--at least for me.
My prayers go out to the young man, his family, and his fraternity brothers.

And then when we thought the issue was dead and everyone just had good wishes for those involved, a silly moderator decided he wanted to get "Press time" and screwed it up for the Lambda Chis.
I wish the LXA brother good health and a speedy recovery.
