Sad News I Somehow Missed
Don't know how I missed this last week, but Tom Fox, the member of the Christian Peacemaker Team who was kidnapped in Iraq last Fall and was found murdered on March 11, was a Sinfonian -- Gamma Psi (George Peabody) ’71.
The Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Press Release.
Makes this horror hit home in a particularly harsh way.

My condolances.
An Alpha Phi sister who works at the EO had her nephew seriously injured in Iraq. He's now in an exclusive club...one of 2 triple amputees from the war. He's only in his 20's. He has an amazing outlook on the situation but still its continues to be a long road for him.

That is a horrible incident.
On a related note, the organization (Christian Peacemakers) I guess is making news because apparently a few additional of members who were taken hostage were rescued by troops. However, the members refuse to thank the American troops, rather only issuing a statement about the illegality of the war and how America caused their plight to begin with. Such classless words take away from the gentleman who was killed, and the efforts of our soldiers to rescue all of them.

Absolutely. Apparently the members who were rescued by American troops talk the talk but don't walk the walk (is that what the kids are saying nowadays???). They should have told the rescuers, "Thanks, but no thanks. We'll just hang out here for a bit until someone worthy of rescuing us comes along."

I agree. I just don't get the lack of gratitude. If nothing else, don't blame the troops who are doing the best the can and who don't make the policies but still have to carry them out.

Exactly. I also think it is pretty incredible how they will assault the United States and President Bush, yet ignore and refuse to place any blame on the people who just brutally killed one of their companions. My fellow Americans never cease to both amaze and disgust me.

What he said.
If people don't heed the warnings of the State Dept. (USA) or Dept of Foreign Affairs (Canada) that say "Don't go to Iraq right now", then they have only themselves to blame...dumbasses.
