TALLAHASSEE - Florida A&M University has suspended a fraternity where a pledge was severely injured in a hazing incident last month, officials said Friday.
Kappa Alpha Psi "is on inactive status," university spokeswoman LaNedra Carroll said. "They're not recognized as an active organization here."
Marcus Jones, a sophomore, was beaten four consecutive nights with canes while pledging Kappa Alpha Psi.
Jones suffered injuries that have forced him out of school for the remainder of the spring semester and could result in criminal charges.
Last year, Florida legislators made hazing that results in serious injury or death a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
